Yeah...it's one of the counties that the non-profit organization for which I work serves. What do you need to know?

I have a friend who lived there for five years, and I visited often. Nice little town right on the river. It's close to Hilton Head and Parris Island.

I got married in Beaufort county I think. It's the county that Hilton Head is in. The town of Beaufort...not so special. Lots of fun stuff to do in the area though.

I've enjoyed a couple of vacation stays there (believe it or not), using it as a convienient jumping off point for both Charleston & Savannah.

Nice enough little town, with both a quaint historic tourism section and a catering-to-the -nearby-military section. (More of the former than the latter, at least as far as I've seen)

I can find demographics, population, housing prices and all of that stuff online, I suppose. Most importantly, are any of their high schools good at football? ;)

Ooooh. I'd be particularly interested to know about USC-Beaufort. Commuter college? Dorms? Student demographic? Going to look up info about it now.

Something I recall from living in coastal North Carolina:

The "Beau" in Beaufort SC is pronounced like the "beau" in "beautiful."
The "Beau" in Beaufort NC is pronounced like the "boa" in "boat." This is also the correct pronunciation of the Duke of Beaufort's name.

I mentioned it only because rumor had it that the Beaufortians get rather testy about it. You know, sweet little old ladies beating you over the head with their canes. That sort of thing.

Looks like at least 2 HS's there -- Beaufort Eagles (9-4 from Region 4-AAAA) and Battery Creek Dolphins (2-9 from Region 4-AAAA)

Also, you might check:

and http://www.schsl.org/
(the state HS organization)

(the state HS organization)OK. IF I go, we'll have to start up BHS first then, it would appear. :p

It should actually be pronounced "The Beau" by all dictators. Sometimes.

We travelled through it a lot when we'd vacation in Hilton Head. I know that the house where they filmed The Big Chill there! So that's something!

I'll ask around the office for some opinions, as I've spent more time around Chucktown.

The move doesn't seem to make a ton of sense from a selfish standpoint. They'd basically be looking for me to duplicate what I've already done in this community, so really no new challenges. That being said, given that we've now broken through the final barrier and made the ministry here in Tucker truly multicultural, I'm not sure what new challenges would await me here, either. If it turns out that this could be truly beneficial to the mission, and the "side benefits" (cheaper housing, wife enjoys the beach, proximity to Charleston and Savannah) are nice, then I might consider it. The discussion may be academic, though. It's a start-up area that probably wasn't thinking, salary-wise, of hiring a 15-year veteran as their Area Director.

It'll be a dark day in Georgia history. :(It's only 40 miles from the border. I wonder if I could commute. http://www.fof-ihof.com/phpBB2/images/smiles/icon_thinking.gif (javascript:emoticon(''))

It'll be a rough ride to meet for Tai for luch, or to catch a Friday night game. Of course, Georgia could use another feeder school from South Carolina...
