Howdy all,

I put out notice a little late last year. Never fear, we are planning another one for the week of the 4th of July this year. We had a pretty good turnout last year and had a blast.

If this sounds like something you'd like to attend, PM me, and I'll add you to the email list. For info on this years trip, check this link:

How close to Santa Fe?

It's a 2 to 2 1/2 hour drive away. We made a day trip down there during the week.

Hello all,

Just a bump to see if there might be some others interested in joining us on this camping trip in Northern New Mexico during the first week in July. If so, let me know. If you have any questions, send them on. It's going to be a blast!

Howdy all,

Due to the drought conditions, the Carson National Forest is now under Stage 2 fire restrictions. This mean no campfires at all, even in established campgrounds. The next stage of fire restrictions will mean a complete forest closure. As a hedge, we've booked a couple of campsites at Lake Isabel, in the San Isabel National Forest in Southern Colorado.

There were some folks that IM'ed me interest, but I didn't have email addresses to send you the email update. We still have room for people that would like to join us.

Lake Isabel is a nice area but SW Colorado is not doing much better as far as fire restrictions.

It's funny, my wife and I are going to be in SW Colorado for a couple days the week of the 4th. And the next two weekends (I think), I'll be down in Northern New Mexico.

Well, the trip time is here. I'm packing up the car and starting the journey to Colorado. I should be there sometime tomorrow afternoon.

I'll be without electronics the whole time, so I'll have a lot of catching up to do next weekend when I get back online. I hope everyone has a great 4th holiday!

Well, I'm back.

I'm glad our presence ended the severe drought in the Colorado mountains...

We weren't able to have any campfires, or use charcoal to cook because of the complete lack of rain over the past several months in the area. Our original location in New Mexico was shut down completely due to lack of rain.

So what does it do when we arrive? Start raining. The first couple of days weren't too bad, with nice sunny mornings and a couple of hours of light showers in the afternoon. That is not out of the ordinary. However, the next three days were almost non-stop rain. The temps stayed in the 60s, and we never had a chance to dry things out. The group decided they'd had enough of it, and once we found out that the weather wasn't forecast to change, we broke camp and headed back to our respective homes. We found out as we were leaving that the fire restrictions for the area were lifted.

We took our time coming back, spending some time at Palo Duro Canyon to relax and dry things out. We got to my parent's house last night, and I got home just before the start of the World Cup. I've got some catching up to do email wise, and get the new coaches set up in the FOFC BBCF league.

If anyone wants to point me to important stuff I've missed here over the past 10 days, please feel free to do so!
