That's right. I didn't even realize til about an hour ago that it was Valentine's Day. Guess how much money I had to spend today? $0. Came home from work, took a nice, warm shower, watched Fastlane on G4. Hopefully will run Zul'Gurub with my WoW clan tonight. Get some work done on my tennis sim. Pretty much a good, easy standard day.
What are you all doing? Having to spend money on flowers. Having to spend money on cards? Having to spend money by taking your girl or man to a nice place to eat with...good food and not cheap food....and tonight...having sex?....I'm playing a video game...
ah fuck

I'm married and I spent $0. My wife's valentine is that I say thank you when she serves me dinner.

We set a dollar limit to gifts, $25 each, and are taking each other out for dinner at our favorite restaurant...The Melting Pot - we go twice a year, for Valentines and for our Anniversary :)

And your Valentine's Day Gift will be that she doesn't divorce you after I tell her you said that!

My wife hates "compulsory" holidays. We both spent zero on this one, and show one another how much we love each other 365 days a year. :)

We also set a limit of 25. I got her some earrings that she likes that are just "cute." She had dropped hints that she wanted them for a week. Also, I got her a card and some flowers. She is sick with the flu so no dinner or other plans for tonight, but we'll do the rain check on those in a few days..

Hm, see, I tried this argument this year and did not get a very warm response.

Nice dinner (steak) at the table rather than in front of the television. Flowers, maybe the Melting Pot this coming weekend. Mmmmm.

Hm, see, I tried this argument this year and did not get a very warm response. Here's a hint: never, ever, try this argument yourself. Much better to do something for her for several consecutive years, then get let off the hook finally. SHE needs to be the one to come to this conclusion on her own. You cannot help her do so without great risk. :p

I completely agree. I made the mistake of trying to bring up this argument, and it didn't go well. It was our 3rd year of marriage.. she still brings it up almost 4 years later ;)

She won't do it for another couple months. After June, it will be 10 years and she gets half of my retirement...no matter what.

I had Chick-Fil-A sandwich with a TOMATO and slice of CHEESE! That's right, I actually wanted one not on a Sunday and found out about the new bonuses (well, they cost money, but still bonus!). This Wilmingtonians are spoiled (wait, maybe they have these new fangled things in Atlanta... must check it out when I get back) ;)

Yes they do and the bacon and cheese on an original sandwich is YUMMY!!!!
As for the Valentines Day is just another stupid holiday...then wouldn't that make Birthdays the same thing? Shouldn't you celebrate the people you love every day and not just once a year? But I have never heard anyone on here saying "I am not celebrating mine or my wife's birthday because I celebrate her the other 364 days a year". Same thing with Mothers Day, Fathers Day, etc...
Edit to add: I will concede that V-day is an over-hyped holiday, but that doesn't mean you have an all or nothing deal...a card is enough for most women. Or something small that they said "oh, that is cute"...just to show you actually pay attention to what we say and are willing to put a little effort into it...

Was Mother's Day? Father's Day? Do you buy your parents cards for those occasions or do you tell them it's a manufactured holiday?

cant compare a birthday( the BIRTH of the person) to V-Day. unless of course you were born on V-Day
Valentines day is always cool. I can start dating again tomorrow.

It's a day that's very special to the person and isn't just a giant "buy me" holiday. It's a day where the world can revolve around that person and not just "every person who has someone".
Then there's also the obvious sexist nature of the holiday. Let's be honest, it's marketed and tends to mean much more for girls than guys. There aren't any guys going around bragging about how they got their girl to spend four times the usual value on a bouquet of flowers that dwarfs their desk for the sake of making all their other guy friends jealous.

364, since you apparently go out of your way to NOT show one another today in protest of the compulsory holiday.

Basically, we both forgot. He made plans to go gaming that night.. and neither of us realised what day it was beforehand. So, I stayed home with the baby and watched American Idol while he went out and tried to conquere an imaginary world with little bitty plastic men.
