Feeling Weird...

I could care less about it having been Valentine's day and being single. I saved some money. Yay. But at work tonight I saw flashing lights outside the window by where I work. I thought nothing of it because it's not exactly a rare thing. For all I knew they were clearing some snow.

Well, it turns out that the flashing lights were police cars. The street has police tape across it. Somebody chose Valentine's day to jump off the building next to ours. They hit the ground about 30 feet down the street from where I was (on the 3rd floor.)

I know what lonelyness is. It's not fun, but I can't imagine lonelyness so profound that you would end your life... For some reason, knowing that while I was sitting there not wanting to be at work somebody went splat that close makes me feel weird...

When I lived in Manhattan, I encountered the same story as above--the NYPD closed off a block, since there was a man in an apartment building hanging off his balcony threatening suicide.

A crowd of spectators gathers. They start chanting, "jump! jump! jump!"

That's NYC for you...
