I am playing a career in single player, and just came across something I have not seen before. A team that drafted a right tackle with the 20th pick in the first round, cut him following the preseason. He was not a bust, rated at 29/61, and was one of only 3 offensive tackles on the team. Any idea why a team would cut a player like this?
Well he is a bust in my book. He doesn't figure into their long term plans. Maybe they could have trade him for a pick.

Did he resign with another team for a minimal salary? I see this every few years in FOF, not sure why.

Well, he is available in the free agent pool now, asking for minimal money. I am tempted to sign him but wonder why the computer team would have released him. He is still rated at 29/61 in the free agent pool.

Was the team in Salary Cap Hell?

After some investigation, and a little money spent on my part, I have discovered the so called 'non-bust tackle' is actually named Tony Mandrich.

Did he actually sign with the team that drafted him?

I thought if they didn't sign they matriculated back into the next year's draft pool.

Yes, he did sign with the team that drafted him, he even played in the preseason with him.
They have plenty of room under the cap as well. I just do not get it.

Maybe once you get him on your roster, he will drop to a 29/35. That happened to a kicker taken in the third round in ImperialFL this past season. He looks good from far, but it far from good.

My guess that their scout had a different opinion of him than your scout did. Whose scout is better at evaluating young talent and offensive linemen?

The game still has some AI goofyness and I've seen this before as well.

I just attribute it to off-field problems the game doesnt tell me about. If the eagles cut TO without much other talent at WR, this doesnt seem out of the question...at least thats how i reason it

Ah...assuming that the other guy (even the AI) is totally rational is a classic military mistake...

I kind of related to the TO situation as well. Still a tremendous talent, however, very few want him.

That name is eerily like Todd Marinovich.

Agreed. I saw this happen to a top 5 pick who maxed out in the 80s.
