There is considerable argument over Borden. Many books have been written over the years that argue both sides. Crimelibrary does an interesting piece about her case:

Yup innocent; back in the day, her trial was like the OJ trial in our generation.

EDIT for graphical errors. I'm a bit paranoid now and keep checking to make sure my button is still there :)

Another bump for Schmidty. We'll give him some more time since he's a Left Coaster, but if by later on tonight he hasn't picked we'll find a replacement.

Yep, the ground rules were that all they had to do to qualify was stand trial, regardless of the trial's outcome.

I select O.J. Simpson (athletes)

O.J. was charged with two murders, and although he was found innocent in the criminal trail, he was found guilty in the civil trial, and he had a long history of "suspected" spousal abuse before that. His "Trial of the Century" single-(gloved)-handily redefined America's obsession with celebrities and the media's need to report on every single misstep they have. And to boot, he was one of the greatest football players of all time, a Hall-of-Famer and Heisman Trophy winner.

I was mostly irritated because right after he posted it cartman and I told him to delete it AND I PMed him. He was in the thread for another 15-20 minutes and then left. I guess he could have not refreshed and then just closed the window or something, but it still makes me mad.

This man was legendary not only because of the bloody havoc he wreaked on Los Angeles in the 70's, but also his charisma. His charm enabled him to enrapture a horde of people to create a psychotic family. Just think about this: An 8-months pregnant Sharon Tate's blood all over the walls.

With pick 1.8, Team RFUS selects Charles Manson-Murderer

My first round analysis (hopefully it doesn't make Schmidty spontaneously combust ;)):

1.1 - st. cronin - Lizzy Borden [Murderers]
Surprise pick to kick it off. A first rounder in my opinion, but we'll have to see if she's worth the first overall pick.

1.2 - Schmidty - Jack the Ripper [Murderers]
Would have been my consensus #1. We'll have to see if Schmidty can build on this pick.

1.3 - Cartman - Jeffery Dahmer [Murderers]
Definitely a top 3 pick. Cannibalism is always a nice bonus when picking up a Murderer.

1.4 - Oliegirl - Lee Harvey Oswald [Murderers]
Great name recognition, but will lack of volume on his resume hurt with the voters?

1.5 - Rafini - OJ Simpson [Athlete]
The first athlete to go off the board, no surprise in who it is.

1.6 - Desnudo - Green River Killer [Murderers]
Solid first rounder with decent volume and name recognition

1.7 - Sachmo71 - John Wayne Gacy [Murderers]
Good value pick at this point in the draft. Everyone loves a clown.

1.8 - RadioFriendlyUnitShifter - Charles Manson [Murderers]
Might be the steal of the draft so far. Great leadership skills will probably be a benefit.

1.9 - Sabotai - Zodiac Killer [Murderers]
With the run on Murderers, sabotai grabs a big name before they're all gone.

1.10 - DeToxRox - Ed Gein [Murderers]
Definitely has the resume, but name recognition may be an issue. DeTox may have to do some PR with the voters.

Its rare that an athlete comes up on capital murder charges, and the hunt for this guy, leading to him being found hiding in the trunk of a friend's car in Tennesee was simply bizarre.

2.7 - Athlete - Rae Carruth

Dunno about the strat to take fictional characters early. There are definately a lot of big name fictional characters to pick from, and we only need one. Same thing with murderers (even though I did take 1 in the first round). Lots of big names there too.

I think the "Other" and "Wildcard" picks will be the ones that impact most, considering how vast the catagory is and we need to fill 3 spots total with those. Ok, I got off to a strong start, no time to let up now.

I've got two of the most deviant criminals in history on my roster. Now is the time to take a pick that can go beyond the mindless killing. After all, criminals are more than just murderers. I'm looking for someone who can bring a team of criminals together, and can cover all of the bases, so I'm picking:

3.3 "The Teflon Don" John Gotti - Other

oliegirl
02-17-2006, 07:53 PM
At 3.4, Team Oliegirl selects:

Aileen Wuornos - Murderer (female), the real life Lesbian Serial Killer which the movie Monster was based on. She killed 7 men in Florida after they picked her up for sexual favors (prostitution) in the early 90's and was caught mainly by information turned in by her lover.

This fulfills my female selection as well as filling up my murderer category...

With it's third-round pick, team Rafini selects Don Vito Corleone (Andolini), Sicily, Fictional Character

With, arguably, the most notorious real-life gangster in history in Capone already on the squad, I figured I had to get the most well-known silver screen mobster. The Godfather is the mafia film all others are compared to, and when you think of The Godfather, the image of Don Vito sitting behind his desk has to come to mind. When it takes Marlo Brando and Robert DeNiro to play a character, you know he has to be great.

John Wilkes Booth was on our list, I like that pick a lot. Cartman's Hurricane and both of st. cronin's picks(mcclain and bruce) are solid as well.

Maybe not globally famous or as notorious as many others, but certainly an FOFC fan favorite and inspiration for kids entering puberty everywhere. Certainly an entertainer, but I'll select:

How have 'insert really mean guys here' not been drafted?!?!!

All have stood trial for various offenses and all found guilty. All 3 of which out-strip all other murderers listed in this draft. They are all first rounders! For evilness sake show these players some respect! :)

Sorry :)

It's bad form to discuss names while the draft is ongoing. If you don't mind, please edit your post to remove the names.

I was thinking of taking Fatty Arbuckle, but considering he was set up I passed.

uuughhhh.....I can't decide who I want to take for fictional. I have two top people in mind and I want to take both....

Saw someone earlier do this but I want to be clear. We can take a fictional character with our wildcard picks, correct?

8.3 Richard "The Nightstalker" Ramirez-Wildcard

What a freaking nutjob. Ruthless rapist and murderer, Ramirez had some of the most surreal moments in the history of murder trials. Writing shit on his hands and making demonic faces, threatening the judge and jury. Just a crazy dude. Look it up on Wikipedia. I'm surprised he's still here.

Wow, Fatty Arbuckle, awesome find. It doesn't get more salacious than killing a women with a champagne bottle to the....um you know, Ouch. I don't know how you guys are rating this draft, but that one gets many points.

On the other hand the Shoeless Joe pick should get very little points. That pick was in very bad form. Not a criminal in the literal sense or in the belief of the masses. Where O.J may not be a criminal in the literal sense, but the masses ALL think he did it.

Ok, for my next trick...

Here's a hardened career criminal, whose nickname belies his true, horrible nature. He spent time at Alcatraz (hence his nickname). His first stint in the federal pen was for killing a bartender who didn't pay a prostitute he was pimping. He spent time in Leavenworth, and anywhere he went, he scared the crap out of the other inmates, in fact, he even killed a prison guard in front of over 1,000 other inmates. Sounds just like the guy you want on your criminal team. With my pick, I choose:

9.3 Robert Stroud, The Birdman of Alcatraz - Wildcard

Team Oliegirl selects Sid Vicious, Wildcard. Arrested for the stabbing death of his girlfriend, Nancy Spungen, he was released on $50K bond, but committed suicide via heroin overdose at a party thrown at his new girlfriends house before a trial could occur. Although there is a theory that he is innocent, most believe he was guilty.

The former NBA All-Star was tried on charges related to the killing of 55 year old limousine driver Costas Christofi. He was acquitted of the most serious charges against him, but the jury deadlocked on a charge of reckless manslaughter, and he currently faces a retrial on that charge. He also faces trial on four charges related to his alleged attempts to cover up the circumstances of the driver's death.
