View Full Version : I'm going to catch my father! A www.WheresGeorge.com Dynasty

For the past year and a half, my father (who we'll go ahead and call Denton Dave (http://www.wheresgeorge.com/user_profile_popup.php?ukey=8153668faddbe1cb8d2cd36c566500aa) in this dynasty) has been active on a website called WheresGeorge.com (http://www.wheresgeorge.com). On this website people enter in the year and serial numbers of one, two, five, then, twenty, fifty, and 100 dollar bills and mark on the bill (in whichever fashion the individual deems suitable) the name of the website. Then if another individual gets the bill down the road and enters the bill into the website, both individuals can see where the bill has been. Over a period of months and years, bills get entered into the site numerous times and it's fun to see where the bills wind up.

Like I said earlier, my father has been entering bills on the site for a year and a half now and he is currently the #26 ranked user in all of Texas (we'll get into how ranking are devised later on). He's entered in a whopping 9,167 bills and has received 1,401 hits on those bills (a hit is when another individual enters the bill into the website). Over the past year or so he's been trying to get one of his children to join him in this hobby, and in late October of 2005 I decided to go ahead and do it. I had seen the website before probably around 1999 or 2000, and for some reason I registered for the site in June of 2004, but I didn't enter my first bills until this past October.

At first it was kind of tedious tracking my bills. Entering them into the website wasn't an issue, but I had to handwrite "www.wheresgeorge.com" on both the front and back of all the bills, and that took a LOT of time to do. But after I told my father how I was doing that, he went to the local Staples and made a stamp for me. The stamp says:

"Where has it been?
Track this bill
www.wheresgeorge.com"

The stamp has been a lifesaver and has made it much easier for me to enter large numbers of bills all at once. After entering in only 65 bills over the last half of October I went up to 377 bills in November, 537 bills in December, 879 bills in January (a pace I'm pretty sure I can't keep up), and 291 bills so far in February...giving me a grand total of 2149 bills entered. The hits came very slowly at first, maybe one a week for the first couple of months, but over the last month or so I've been getting two or three hits a day pretty regularly. I just went over the 100 hit mark a few days ago and now have 106 hits total to my name. Click the link (http://www.wheresgeorge.com/user_profile_popup.php?ukey=ab86ba70a83b2e98f5cd09c543d46ef3) if you ever want to see my profile. It updates daily and shows how many bills I have entered, how many hits I have, shows my state and county hit maps, and other assorted goodies.

Like the title of this dynasty states, I'm trying to catch my father in the rankings. Obviously I a LONG way to go before I do so (I'm ranked #162 in texas at the moment) but I do believe that I'm entering bills in at a faster rate than he is currently. I have no idea how long it will actually take me to overtake "Denton Dave", or if I'll ever do so, but I'm sure as hell going to have fun trying!

Over the next few posts I'm going to give a little more of my personal George history and perhaps explain a little bit more about the website in general. Over time I'm going to give daily updates on:

Bills entered
Hits received
Interesting bills found
Anything else interesting that might pop into my head that's George related

And if any of you readers (if I wind up with any) have any questions about the website or how I do anything, just ask and I'll be more than happy to answer your questions!

Happy Georging, everyone!

Today I entered in a bunch of bills. I've been slacking over the last week and the bills have started to accumulate. I wound up entering a grand total of 128 bills. They were:

106 $1 bills
1 $2 bill
4 $5 bills
9 $10 bills
7 $20 bills
1 $100 bill

The interesting thing about todays bunch is that I entered in my first "Tom", what Georgers like to call their two dollar bills. I've never really been very fond of twos, but for some reason they really seem to be popular with the George crowd and it seems a fair number of the high ranking players like to get stacks of them from the bank to stamp and spend. I got this Tom from work, where I get the vast majority of my bills, when I was bartending Sunday morning.

Like I said in the first message, my rank as of this morning (rankings are calculated once a day early in the morning) is #162 in Texas with George Score of 739.36. What's a George Score, you ask? Well, it's a complex system that calculates your bills entered, your hits, and your days of inactivity and spits out a number. Here's the official formula, if you're interested.

The George Score is calculated as follows:
100* ( SQRT(LN(Bills Entered)) + LN(Hits + 1) ) * [1 - (Days of Inactivity / 100)]
Where:
LN = natural log
SQRT = square root
"Bills Entered" is the total number of bills you have entered.
"Hits" is total number of hits you have received.
"Days of Inactivity" is the number of days since you last ran the 'Your Bills' report.

This score is used to determine an individuals ranking.

I've had three hits today, but none of them are too interesting. To check them out, just click on the links...

I'm just glad that the person who spent my bills used them for good and bought Girl Scout Cookies with them rather than something no quite so wholesome. :)

Unless your father is a banker, I'd imagine you'll catch him pretty quickly. I'd imagine you have your hands on more bills each day due to bartending/waiting. Good luck, I'll have to register a bill, then come tip you at OG. ;)

Nah, my pops isn't a banker. But what he does is go to the bank every week or so and withdraw a big bundle of bills to enter and stamp. Then that's his spending money for the next week (or so). I tell you what, it's really cut down on my parent's credit card debt... ;)

Will he ever go on vacation? If he gets hit with some inactivity, that will help.

Heh, funny that you mention that. A couple of months ago my father and his brother's took a trip down to Antarctica. When he left he was ranked somewhere around #45 in Texas but when he got back from the week and half trip he had dropped down into the seventies. But what REALLY pissed him off was that no one in Argentina would take the bills with stamps on them because they said that the bank there wouldn't accept them. So he brought a bunch of bills all that way and didn't get a chance to use them...

As of this morning I've moved up four spots and am now #158 in Texas and my pops is still at #26.

So like I mentioned earlier in the dynasty, it took quite a while for the hits to start coming in. Well, kinda. What really got me to become a Georger was that one week I found three George bills in the cash drawer of the OG bar. I knew my dad would want them, so I took them out and kept them to give to him the next time I saw him. I then e-mailed my dad and told him what I had, and he told me to go ahead and enter them in myself before I gave them to him. After that I was hooked...but when I gave the bills to my father he entered them in as well and that gave me my first three hits. Here are the hit reports for those bills.

It took another two and a half weeks before I got my first non-Pops hit, but after that they started rolling in with some regularity and they haven't stopped!

I just got my first hit of the day. It is my 107th overall hit and the 99th bill that I've entered to have received a hit. The hit is from the town of Kennedale, TX, which is apparently somewhere in the vicinity of Fort Worth. Nothing too exciting there, the excitement comes when the rare out of state hits happen.

The disappointing thing about this hit is that someone used my money to buy the evil that is McDonalds. Excuse me for a moment while I vomit...

funny dynasty. I'm entering whatever little bill comes through my hands at www.whereswilly.com (http://www.whereswilly.com) although I've yet to experience the exhilaration of having a hit on one of my bills :)

I'm not crazy enough to have a stamp made for me though... ;)

Good luck!

Thanks! I was hoping that you would stop by here, FM. Just keep on entering them and sooner or later you'll get a hit or two. How many bills have you entered so far?

Just got another hit, it looks like it might be a good day. This one was from Cleburne, TX in Johnson County...about two counties to the south of me. No description of where he/she got the bill, though... :(

That's officially the 100th bill of mine to get a hit! And it puts me at 108 hits overall...

hehe, didn't know if you'd remember me entering some. I've only got 46 entered so far and I have written the url on maybe only 5 or 6 of them. I'll start writing it from now on. Just wrote it on my four I just entered....

Here's a link to my profile:
http://www.whereswilly.com/user_profile_popup.php?ukey=91299c8cc165278ebcf6d231bc8f9b45

I hover around 110th in Quebec, so not very good, but I've only been entering bills since December. I find it kinda funny and since it's free, well, why not. Oh, and I'm a geek, that helps enjoy that kind of thing :)

Obviously, I don't come accros as many bills as you, but whatever bill I get my hands on, I try to enter it.

Quick question, how did your dad enter the maps in his profile? Is it something you can do only on WheresGeorge? I can't seem to find a way on WheresWilly...

In order to get the maps you have to be a "Friend of George". You become a FoG by donating six bucks a month to the site. For that six bucks you get:

1. No banner or pop-up ads! Pages will load much faster!
2. More Daily runs/refreshes of the Your Bills and Hits by Zip Code Bill Detail Reports.
For detailed Information, Click Here
3. Where's George? only: Dynamically generated Hits by State and Hits by County Maps (See This Page for details)
4. Default User Notes, Bill Note Signatures, and Default Anon Email Messages stored for automatic entry with your bills and Anon notes
5. "Total Bills Entered" variable/counter for your bill notes. (use "@CNT@" in your default bill note to insert the counter).
6. Image Hosting (host up to 10 images on the Where's George? server that you can link to from other websites.)
7. 'Last Hit Timer' displays the time and date of your last hit
8. Full Zip Code and County information displayed for each bill entry
9. Icons on Bill Reports to denote repeat hits from the same Internet Service Provider or an identical Internet Protocol Address
10. Fully visible User Notes on George's Top 10 Hits lists
11. Where's George? Children report
12. Subscribe to other peoples' bills on your favorites page - be notified of their hits, too
13. Help improve the site by adding or editing the 'Help' page on any website page
14. Favorite Folders - Organize your favorite bills into folders
15. Turn off the Coolness Index, State Flags, and Production Stats in bill reports
16. Priority e-mail support. Your questions and comments get top priority!
17. Full-Text bill note searching (beta)
18. More new features and benefits to come!

After you enter in 500 bills you get a free month as a FoG to try and get you hooked on all the special features. After that you gotta pay, though.

Yeah, make sure you put the URL on the bills. Bills that are entered but not marked are called "stealth" bills and very rarely get hits. It's difficult enough getting hits on bills that are stamped, imagine how rare it is for a stealth!

wow, while it's nice little list of features, I don't see myself paying $72 a year for that (fwiw, a bo costs $75cdn, I'll probably break one a year, there's the $72 ;)). I'll simply keep on entering my bills and will try to remember to write the URL ;)

After I got home from work I had a couple more hits waiting for me.

The second one is what Georger's call a "two-hitter", meaning that I've received two hits on the same bill. That one there gives me five two-hitters so far...and earlier in the week I actually got my first three-hitter!

http://www.wheresgeorge.com/report.php?key=c97dfc38ae6a3efee8cf2837b72cdefe0d70cceecb9dff21

And just for a reference point, the most hits that a single bill has ever had is 15. That bill actually bounced around my area for a while a couple of years ago...

Well, since there's enough germs and bacteria on our currency that it's like people are effectively wiping their ass with it, no, I don't have a problem with those who just print on it.

Man, I can't tell you how disgusted I get when I see some on my co-workers hold bills in their mouths when they're in a hurry and making change for a guest. Cause cash certainly is filthy stuff. And I make sure to wash my hands thoroughly when I'm done sorting and stamping my bills... :)

No hits for me overnight, and I apparently slipped a spot in the rankings. I'm now down to #159 in Texas. The "good" news is that my dad also fell a spot, to #27.

I just got first hit of the day, and it's another two-hitter! This one has gone from Lewisville to Fort Worth to Dallas, forming a nice DFW triangle...

That's hit #111 for me.

I just entered in a small cache of bills. Last night was slow at work so I didn't get very many new bills. And since I have today and tomorrow off ( ) I won't be getting any new bills to enter over the next few days...

Today I entered in:

$1 - 9
$5 - 3
$100 - 1

That puts me at a grand total of 2,162 bills entered so far...

I don't know why so much space is being put between the tables (HTML really isn't my thing), but here's some interesting stats about my bills...

It has to due with the carriages in your html code or how the code is on separate lines. vBulletin wants html code to be continuous and without breaks. If you're motivated enough, the best way to alleviate this problem is to put the html code in a text editor and replace all the carriages/returns with nothing (if that makes sense).

I'm not sure how to go about doing that, and it's probably not really big enough of a deal to worry about fixing. Thanks, though... :)

No hits overnight again. But this time I moved up a couple of spots in the rankings. I'm now #157 in Texas...and my father fell TWO spots, so he's now #29 in the state!

http://www.wheresgeorge.com/report.php?key=9451c1df10b6032a6e1f8faa783c20aade1fe59efe5f3199

That one is a good hit because it's my first hit in Harris County...Houston country. Also, it made me smile because my bill found its way to a fellow bartender. :)

Those were hits #113 and 114...

Looks like my lack of entering bills this weekend has caught up with me as I dropped down to #164 in Texas. My father is down to #33, so I'm not the only one who dropped down the charts.

I got two hits today:

http://www.wheresgeorge.com/report.php?key=5fb6be9769da34449639973dbf80f5f785115e567ef2f1b2

This bill is actually one that I got from my father about a month ago. My car battery died and he offered to help me out with it and gave me a handfull of bills. So this hit actually helps both of us, though an Addison hit in of itself really isn't that special.

http://www.wheresgeorge.com/report.php?key=277f553281acb8413dc8ff198fb537d153a1b665f87c0abe

This one wound up down the road in Flower Mound, the fourth bill to make it over there.

Those are hits 115 and 116 for me. I've now had hits 12 days in a row. I think my previous record was 13 days, so if I get a hit tomorrow I'll tie the sucker...

I have a bundle of bills that I got at work today, but I haven't had a chance to enter them yet. I'll likely enter them tomorrow afternoon and hopefully that'll help my score to go back up.

Funny... I tried this website out in November of 2004... I have exactly one bill registered, and it has received no hits.

Would it be considered "cheating" to mail a few bills to friends and relatives around the country, just to see where they end up?

I think spending them at truck stops and airports would be a good way to get bills to travel.

JeeberD
02-22-2006, 01:01 PM
Good to see ya, Franky!

Yeah, I know that a lot of hard core Georgers like to spend bills at airports to get them to distant spots, and I'm sure that truck stops would deliver similair results.

You're not really supposed to give bills to folks for the sole purpose of them giving you a hit, but really...who's gonna know? I'm not supposed to deposit stamped bills at the bank (something having to do with hurting "natural circulation") but I do it anyways cause I gotta pay my bills.

The chances of your single bill getting a hit are pretty slim. It could get torn and thrown away, lost, deposited in a bank and stored there for years, etc. I think I had between 50-100 bills in circulation before I got my first hit, it takes a little effort. That's one of the problems with the site, when folks don't get results right away they get frustrated and quit. If you're gonna be a succesful Georger you need to be at least semi-serious about it.

I've slacked on updates the past couple of days. I probably won't have time for them today, but I'll be sure to give one tomorrow...

My pops was actually kind enough to buy the stamp for me, but I think it cost around $15 at Staples. Any office supply store should be able to make one.

Heh, I don't think my dad knows this place exists. It would probably completely change my posting if he showed up! Can't act like the perv I am in front of the old man, can I? ;)

So, how 'bout an update, slacker...

So I took a couple of months off because my stamp broke and (a) writing "www.WheresGeorge.com" on the front and back of all those bills is EXTREMELY tedious work, and (b) I was too damn lazy to go to the store and get a new stamp made. But recently my father told me about www.Stamp-Connection.com and the George stamps they have for sale there...specifically cool stamps that use an oil based ink that won't wash out of the bills. Well, on Friday I got around to ordering one (http://www.stamp-connection.com/products/WG-XL75.html) and it arrived this afternoon! So now I have a back log of around 400 singles that have been entered but need to be stamped, so I'll get those taken care over the next couple of days and then start entering some new bills.

It's funny, though. Even though I haven't been actively entering bills for the past two months, my ranking still went up quite a bit. I was stilling getting a hit or two just about every day, and as long as I visited the site fairly often my score didn't suffer too much. So while I was away I went from #164 in Texas all the way up to #126! Hopefully once I get all these bills out and about I'll move up even more... :)

I'll post some more info tomorrow...I need to get started stamping now!

Franklinnoble
05-15-2006, 05:48 PM
Sweet...

I did the manual entry thing for a while, and it did indeed suck. Still, I'm not sure I can justify a $20 stamp for this sort of hobby... but I'm tempted...

JeeberD
05-16-2006, 09:11 AM
If I had hand written on all of the 400 bills I had backlogged, there's no telling how many hours it would have taken. But using the stamp, it took me a mere 45 minutes... :)

AND the stamp is probably more visible and likely to get a second or third glance from someone than a handwritten note.

Of course, it all depends upon how serious you're planning on getting. If you're just going to do a few bills every now and then, it's probably not the wisest investment. But if you think that you're going to get fairly into it, it's worth every damn cent.

I just got finished entering and stamping a wad of bills from this past week or so. I've been saving bills up since I decided to order a new stamp about the middle of last week...

Today I entered in 94 bills worth a total of $386:

$1 - 81
$5 - 5
$10 - 4
$20 - 2
$100 - 2

I'm still at #126 in Texas...the same place I was yesterday. Over the break my father moved up a bit and as of today he's #26 in the state. So I have quite a ways to go before I get anywhere near him.

As of right now, I have a total of 199 bills that have received hits for 223 hits overall.

JeeberD
05-16-2006, 10:42 AM
And I thought I was pass along a semi-amusing anecdote...

Yesterday at work I came across a one dollar bill that had a URL written along the top, left-hand border. It obviously wasn't the George URL, but I thought that someone might be doing some home grown Georging or something. So I decided to take it home with me and check it out.

Of course, in the back of my mind I'm wondering if some asshole is using bills to spread a virus that he wrote, but I figured it was a longshot. So when I got home I got online and entered the URL into Firefox and hit enter. As soon as I did that, up popped my download manager asking where I wanted to download the .exe file! I don't think I've hit "Cancel" faster in my life!

Today, though, I thought I would do a Google search on the name of the file it tried to download to see if it was a known virus or what. So I entered the URL again and when the download manager opened up I copied the name of the file (AdbeRdr70_DLM_enu_full.exe) into Google. Well, it turns out that file is the name of the .exe for Adobe reader 7.0! So either someone is trying some sort of sneaky viral marketing type thing to get Adobe Reader even more well known, or some jackass is trying to spread a virus under the name of Adobe Reader. I don't feel like taking a risk and finding out which it is, though... ;)

The scoring system kind of sucks since you don't get more points for each time the same bill is entered.

How many bills that already have the wheresgeorge.com have you and your Dad seen, or entered?

How many bills that already have the wheresgeorge.com have you and your Dad seen, or entered?

I've hit 26 George bills, but 20 of those were bills that I got from my dad for one reason or another. So really I've only hit six "Wild Georges".

My dad kind of cheats when it comes to hitting bills...he made friends with a teller at the bank he goes to and the teller now sets aside George bills that he comes across and gives them to my dad when he comes in. I'm not sure how many bills he's hit, but it's gotta be a pretty good number...

Even though I don't come accross as many bill as you, I still try to enter to www.whereswilly.com (http://www.whereswilly.com) every bill that goes through my hands. I also try to write the URL on every bill I enter. Still not a hit though, but I only have 105 bills entered...

One thing I hate is when I go to the ATM and have to spend the bills like almost immediately. No time to mark them or enter them. Doesn't happen often, but for the small number of bills that I enter, every one counts :)

I'm currently 91st in the Province of Quebec...

No hits overnight. However, I managed to hand out quite a few bills as change and tip-outs at work last night, so hopefully I get some hits on those soon.

I just entered in and stamped the new bills I got at work last night. They were:

$1 - 6
$5 - 2
$10 - 2
$20 - 1
$100 - 1

And I'm still at #126 in the state. No movement over the past three days...a little strange.

This last one is cool for several reasons. First of all, it's my first hit from the state of Iowa. Secondly, it wound up in Muscatine, Iowa...the town that my grandparents live in! And this note popped up in my e-mail right after the hit registered...

Hello Jeremy!

Glad to meet you!! Did your dad Denton Dave used to live in Colorado ( called Denver Dave and your grandma from Muscatine, Iowa.??? I've hit several of his bills, found them at the bank I worked .

The first of his bills I hit were twenties he spent at the Elms restaurant in Muscatine. Hope you have a good day & email me back

Wheresgeorger, Charlene

So not only did my bill make it to the little town where my grandparents live, but it also was found by a woman who has hit several of my dad's bills in the past! What a small world it is... :)

I just need to e-mail her back and ask her if she's a fan of the Mosquitoes (http://www.fof-ihof.com/team/teamnews.php?teamid=10). ;)

I've dropped another couple of spots over the weekend and I'm down to #129 in Texas. It's kind of frustrating that I've been going nowhere but down since I got back on the George horse.

I'm about to enter a batch of bills from work yesterday. These new bills are:

$1 - 39
$5 - 4
$10 - 4

http://www.wheresgeorge.com/report.php?key=c983ac1e75f96903af99e6c179eade7eb002bd7ecb94292d
This bill wound up in the small town of Pickton, TX, which is in the northeast corner of the state. Maybe if I'm lucky it'll wind up in Arkansas...

http://www.wheresgeorge.com/report.php?key=08627d4a35ebd29cacebcc3a055723e1bfbb38956f4ceb0e
And this bill wound up all the way in Joiet, IL, my second Illinois hit. Looks like someone used it to purchase alcohol...glad to see that my bill is going to good use. :) Hmmm...I wonder if there's any chance that it could be the bill that Neuq had but didn't enter?

I have a few bills that I need to enter from work the other day, but I've been lazy and haven't got around to entering them. I guess I'll go ahead and do that now. The bills are:

$1 - 6
$5 - 5
$10 - 2

And I'm starting to move back up the rankings a bit. As of midnight last night I'm up to #128 in Texas. :)

It's the same bill that I got a hit on the other day from OKC. It's still in Oklahoma City, and it was found at the same hotel chain. Not sure if it's the same exact hotel or if it's some sort of crazy coincidence.

http://www.wheresgeorge.com/report.php?key=6d9fd90c09528359703f65f503753dc59bc0cfe7e497fb82
And here's ANOTHER Illinois hit! Actually, it looks like the person who hit it is FROM Illinois but actually got the bill in Dallas. It's a common mistake...you're supposed to enter where you got the bill, not where you are at the time of entering it...

The past couple of days have been crazy because I found THREE Wild Georges (George bills that are found by chance) at work. It's been a long, long time since I've come across one, but I found one last night and TWO today!

As of today I've moved up a couple of spots and am now #125 in the great state of Texas. My dad is at #27, so I'm VERY slowly gaining some ground on him...

This was post #20000? Don't get me wrong- it's a dynasty and that's cool but I expected something with a bit more zing. But I guess you've always had some Cal Ripken in you and this keeps with it ;)

Another bill that stayed in-city. The strange thing is that the last two hits came within seconds of each other yet were hitby different people...

I just entered in a big old stack of bills:

$1 - 95
$5 - 4
$20 - 2
$100 - 1

Imade a pretty good jump and am now up to #116 in Texas! My dad has moved up a single spot and is at #26...

A Michigan hit! That would be my second hit from that state. And apparently the bill still "looks nice."

I just entered in a batch of bills from work last night:

$1 - 9
$5 - 3
$20 - 2
$50 - 1

Overnight I had another decent jump and am now #113 in Texas. Slowly but steadily I'm moving up...

http://www.wheresgeorge.com/report.php?key=fba3dcdbd56f4e7f9313ea712dd5c8888a19b20619a65bfb
Lafayette, LA, my fifth Louisiana hit. The cool part is that it was hit by a young Georger, a young man named Francis. Hopefully this will help to keep his interest in Georging going strong...

http://www.wheresgeorge.com/report.php?key=46807c5db3ecd35fe4b0176373521affa2b0ba3c79eca0f0
A hit not too far away in Sulpher Springs. I work with a guy who is from there originally...I wonder if the town smells as bad as the name would indicate?

http://www.wheresgeorge.com/report.php?key=0a91aea463f3c65f3c50bb878ef7848337bcc470f4d41852
A two-hitter from up in Sherman, along the TX-OK border. Glad to see the was received as change in the purchase of something cool...a baseball scorebook.

http://www.wheresgeorge.com/report.php?key=76510ceed1d7b0e129dbdce76bf73ad285e1e1f616d119d0
Another hit from someone who got the bill in the DFW area but recorded it as an IL hit. I'll go ahead and take it as a fourth Illinoiser, but it's not really legit. At least it was put to good use and was spent on Mavs gear...

http://www.wheresgeorge.com/report.php?key=d1bb275131e983f0d8290fbb29896e06302e389953d80cec

http://www.wheresgeorge.com/report.php?key=76510ceed1d7b0e129dbdce76bf73ad285e1e1f616d119d0
Huh...I just realized that this is the same one as a few above. I wonder why I got two e-mails about it 11 hours apart? Strange...

I also found a not well marked Wild George in my stack of bills that I was entering yesterday.
http://www.wheresgeorge.com/report.php?key=922a2245c8737c0549844236cedf527c2945302a12ed72e5
It was written on entirely in black ink and not in the borders, so the writing was difficult to see. The bill was originally from Indiana and was entered in about three months ago. The person who entered it in doesn't have a profile, so it looks like they're not a regular Georger. Too bad... :(

I entered in a BIG batch of bills yesterday. It breaks down like this:

$1 - 158
$5 - 12
$10 - 4
$20 - 4

I'm now at #113 in the state...the day after entering in a big batch I usually drop down a few spots, so that's not too surprising. My dad is now out of town for two weeks (another Alaska trip) and won't be entering in any more new bills or logging into the site, so his score might dip. At the moment he's #26 in the state with four days of inactivity. Of course, once he gets back and logs in his score will jump right back up. Alas...

This one is interesting...it's a hit on a ten dollar bill. I don't get many of those, this is only the ninth ten spot that I've gotten a hit on out of 141 entered. Also, it's a Florida hit, my second from that state. And last but not least, I had no idea at all that cigar shops sold coffee-ice cream drinks... ;)

I just entered in a few bills. Those, combined with bills that I entered yesterday break down as follows:

$1 - 46

Another hit from The Colony. This one excites me a little because it was found at the Lewisville Walmart. I live RIGHT across the street from that Walmart and probably spend cash there at least four days a week and this is the first time anyone had directly said that they got a bill from there. Finally, some of my hard work validated. ;)

These four hits made me laugh. These are bills that I originally gave to my fiancee' for my half of dinner at an Indian restaurant on Sunday night. Well, it turns out that Marisa gave some of those bills to her friend and co-worker Kishia to pay for some scrapbooking stuff, and then Kishia gave it to another friend/co-worker named Krystal as change for a ten dollar bill. It was kinda of fun trying to figure out how they got from me to Krystal. And at least Krystal was cool enough to enter them...I had to have words with Marisa and Kishia for being too lazy to enter them. ;)

Southport, NC...my second North Carolina hit! Kinda weird that it was sent to somebody from Texas to NC without being entered in Texas, but whatever...

I dropped down quite a bit earlier last week (like down to #110) but I've nearly made it back to where I was. I'm currently #101 in the state.

The next bill of mine that gets hit that is a first timer will be my 300th bill to get a hit! I also exceeded 4000 bills entered yesterday.

http://www.wheresgeorge.com/report.php?key=3a9fcf9cc531399ddcf080336059a8a189f241e7a6dee17b
A single that made it way out west to Seminole, TX, right along the New Mexico border. Maybe if I'm lucky it'll make it over to the Land of Enchantment and I'll get my first NM hit.

I'm up to 342 bills with hits for a total of 384 hits. I got my first NY hit over the past week, as well as a North Carolina and my first Alabama. My hit map is surely but slowly filling in...

I also have a very good opportunity for some new states this weekend. My fiancee is going on a trip to New York with her mother, and I'm going to give her a bunch of bills to spend. I'm really hoping that some of those bills will make it out of the state and get me some new New England hits!

I've climbed up to #96 in Texas while my father (and his 1784 total hits) is holding steady at #26...

Just an update...I'm still entering bills like crazy and collecting hits. As of yesterday I entered in my 10,000th bill and I've collected 881 hits. I have hits in 37 states, DC, one in the Netherlands, and one in the UK. The only states I'm missing are Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Maryland, North Dakota, New Hampshire, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Vermont, and Wyoming.

Currently I'm ranked #65 in Texas but have been as high as #62. My father is still in the same general area he was when I first started this dynasty...#24. So I'm getting there. Slowly but surely, I'm getting there. I've put a serious dent in the size of his bill count lead, and at the rate I'm currently going (about 500 bills a month entered more than him) I should be able to catch him in bills entered in about another year...

That is, how many times have YOU received & entered the second (or more) hit on a bill?

I have hit a total of 52 bills. 20 of those are what we would call Wild Georges...George bills that I've find out and about. 20 more are bills that my father has given to me for one reason or another and I've entered. The other 12...well, I don't remember exactly where they came from. Some I know came from a friend of my father's in Iowa who is also a Georger. I'll research it further tomorrow for you...

Today I got my butt kicked at work and made a bunch of money. Here's what I entered when I got home:

$1 - 55
$5 - 2
$10 - 2
$20 - 3

No hits today so far, but one late last night...

Oh, I almost forgot! When I was entering my bills today I hit a STEALTH bill! Stealth bills are bill that are entered into Where's George but aren't marked in any way. It is EXTREMELY rare that stealths are ever hit. For instance, if you check the profile of the bill I hit you'll see that the people who entered it have entered in over 20,500 stealth bills and have received a mere 38 hits...a .17% hit percentage! My wife thinks I'm a total geek for getting so excited about this Wild George, but I think that it's totally cool...

Are you careful and deliberate about it, or are you just cranking them out and stamping wherever?

So, after almost two years and 103 bills entered, I finally got my first hit (three at once, actually). My hit rate is now a whopping 2.91%, and I'm ranked 1,261 out of 8,925 in the state of California. At this rate, I'll start my "I'm going to catch JeeberD..." thread in about 35 years or so.

Oh... one observation. The bills that got hits were pretty quick... less than three days after I entered them. And they're from the first batch I started entering using red ink on the stamp, instead of black. I suspect the brighter color makes a difference. If I could find hot pink stamp ink I might try that...

Front and back in red ink and I stamp the bills in pretty much the same spot (on singles, sideways to the left of George on the front and on the back the bottom line with the site address in the white spot under the large "ONE" in the middle of the bill, with the rest of the bills I stamp sideways to the right of the portrait on the front and sideways on the blank white area to the far left on the back).

I've been getting hits like crazy the past few days, like 8-10 a day. Florida has entered the 10+ hit club for me, joining Texas (781 hits), Oklahoma (41 hits), Louisiana (14 hits), and California (14 hits).

I've moved up as far as 61 in the past few days and have dropped down as far as 64. Currently I'm back at 61.

Oh! And just another 26 hits until I have 1,000 total!!!

Hmmm, very interesting! I've been considering getting a new stamp...my current one is starting to wear out a bit after stamping the front and back of 7900+ bills since last May. My only concern is that you can only get it in black ink...a no-go as far as I'm concerned. Thanks for the link, though!

And congrats on your first hits! Remember, the more bills you Enter, Mark, and Spend (EMS is the George credo) the more hits you get! :) ;)

Yeah, I think red ink (or some other bright color) is critical to getting the bills noticed. My first 70 or so bills were in black ink, and I think that's why it took so long to get a hit.

So two bits of good news today...

First off, I finally made it into the Texas Top 50. Today I'm ranked #49 in the state! Top 50 has been a goal for me for a long time, so I'm VERY excited to have made it up there... :)

http://www.wheresgeorge.com/state_profiles_detail.php?args=bd1b8ed32fd52b4867b291516bdc97cdf36fe09442c102fc9d7b9c11b583cc9a25b4fe9ff6ffa2b354adf2824f72882db1298543a1b92ed63efb3119e10fa5e59a87f3a88b78ebf6b29872d4cbedb421efd5cf9313af8f9cea52e56037373769

Second...I've kinda-sorta of reached my major goal, what the title of this thread states. Yup, I've caught my father. While I moved up into the top 50, Dad is down to #52. Of course, that's only because he's been in Italy for about a week and a half now and nine days of inactivity have really hurt his George Score. Of course, once he gets back into country and logs back in, he'll back up to #24 or so. So this is just a temporary victory for me...

Hey Jeebs,

I got a dollar bill with a stamp that had wheresgeorge.com so I had to register. It's interesting because my dollar had a stamp around the letter with a person's nickname (Wascally Wabbit) and the url underneath. Pretty neat stuff I'm considering getting a stamp made with my "Dodgerchick" nickname and the url underneath.

Anyway, just wanted you to know I thought about you when I saw it :)

I definitely will! I asked Ant if he had any bills so I entered those too. I really need to get a stamp. The whole reason why I entered it was because there was a stamp with the website on it so if I stamp what I have, then others will join in the fun.

A nice, wide selection of stamps to choose from. At the moment I'm using this (http://www.stamp-connection.com/products/WG%20ML%20Rectangle.html) stamp for the front of my bills, and this (http://www.stamp-connection.com/products/WG-XL75.html) one on the backs.
