These girls are either on the rise, or giving me a rise, one or the other.. I'm starting to dig curling.
The match is on USA (The Channel) now, turn it on and see what I mean.

What's the deal with hot women and curling? Wouldn't you think they have something better to do?

I don't know, but I've taped and watched curling the last few days. The hot women far outnumber the non-hot women in the televised matches at least.

Where is the proof of these accusations?

The Swedish women, though, were disappointingly homely. Especially the "skip". Ugh.

As far as the scoring goes, the team with the closest rock at the end of an "end" gets credit for the number of rocks they have closer than their opponent and in the scoring rings..
Thats what I gather anyway.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who watched curling in the last couple of days and had absolutely no idea what was going on.

yeah, and with less geriatric players. It seems to carry with it a hint of true grace in the way the players "shoot the rock".. ( If I might wax cheesy and poetic for a moment)
I hear Prince can shoot the rock..
I'm too stoned for serious conversation I think. Typical day off.

That is something that really pissed me off about the Cold War. Our government really put one over on us. We were led to believe that all women behind the Iron Curtain were incredibly ugly. They told us they were all steroid riddled East German weightlifters, or 300 pound babushkas.
Now we know much better.

I don't. I just enjoyed watching the matches, I didn't start searching out pics. Of course, I was watching with my wife...

I still the prefer the sisters from Austria...wow!!
Another "easy on the eyes" olympian would have to be Kari Traa from Norway...silver medal in moguls. Google her...not too shabby.

People may be talking up Curling, but where are the fans? They have 4 matches going on at the same time, but the stands are empty.
So, I wouldn't be running out and buying any stock in Curling TV just yet.

Suddenly, I agree. Women's curling rocks. However, that woman in the lower left photo looks like she could pull your arms off.

Bask in my "knowledge" :D (this was from me trying to explain the game earlier tonight)
[02.17.2006:18:41] ---: i need to start understanding the scoring
[02.17.2006:18:41] sterlingice: ive learned a lot about curling in the past few days
[02.17.2006:18:41] sterlingice: ok, basically, it's like this
[02.17.2006:18:42] sterlingice: there are 10 ends (innings)
[02.17.2006:18:42] sterlingice: each end has 8 stones for each team
[02.17.2006:18:42] sterlingice: there's a lead, second, third, and skip who thrown them (in that order, they each get 2)
[02.17.2006:18:42] sterlingice: so, your skip, since he/she does the last two is the badass
[02.17.2006:18:43] sterlingice: ok, to score, you need to have a rock in the target
[02.17.2006:18:43] sterlingice: whoever is closest to the center gets a point
[02.17.2006:18:43] sterlingice: if there are none left in the rings, it's scoreless (they do that sometimes to play defense)
[02.17.2006:18:43] sterlingice: if you not only have the closest but the three closest, for instance, you get 3 points
[02.17.2006:18:44] ---: yeah
[02.17.2006:18:44] ---: makes sense
[02.17.2006:18:44] ---: oh that's why the score isn't higher i guess
[02.17.2006:18:44] sterlingice: oh, and the last rock is called the hammer
[02.17.2006:18:44] sterlingice: the hammer goes to the team that didn't score in the previous end
[02.17.2006:18:45] sterlingice: ah, and here's a little tidbit from wiki
[02.17.2006:18:45] sterlingice: If only one point is possible, the skip will often try to avoid scoring at all in order to retain the hammer until the next end, when two or more points may be possible. This is called a blank end. Scoring without the hammer is commonly referred to as stealing, or a steal, and is much more difficult.
[02.17.2006:18:45] sterlingice: that explains all their thoughts on trying to get 0's
[02.17.2006:18:46] sterlingice: and their talk of "trying to keep the hammer" strategy
[02.17.2006:18:46] ---: ah
[02.17.2006:18:46] ---: so they might just keep trying to go 0-0
[02.17.2006:18:46] ---: and keep hte hammer
[02.17.2006:18:46] sterlingice: yeah since it's a lot easier to score with the hammer
[02.17.2006:18:48] sterlingice: so, that along with the fact that apparently Bemidji, Minnesota is a curling hotbed (as both teams are from there), the fact that there are a pair of sisters on the women's team, the skip on the guy's team runs a pizza place, and the Fins have an unpronouncable skip named U-15 who's a big stud and an international badass pretty much sums up my knowledge of it
[02.17.2006:18:49] sterlingice: ok, so i guess i haven't learned that much about curling

the target
Commonly refered to as the house. The house consists of the button (centre of the house), the four foot (usually blue ring around the button), the eight foot (then next ring out, usually white), and the 12 foot (the red outer ring).

I actually enjoy watching curling more than most of the other sports and events I've seen.. Not just womens curling either.. I like strategic sports, and this one seems to have a lot of that involved. everything else is timed or judged.

Oh, and SI, don't forget about the free guard zone, where during the first 4 rocks per end, you can't hit the opposing teams rocks in the area between the hog line and the house.. or else your rock is out as well.
It's to make the game more exciting (with the rule, it is easier to steal an end, because you can set up guard rocks)
Curling is the highest rated event on Italian TV...no joke.
And the ratings for curling in the last games in Salt lake were huge also.

I spent the first half of this match trying to decide if the blonde's overbite was enough to turn me off, then I decided who am I kidding.
There was never a question about the ponytailed brunette. yum

Yeah, the blonde reminded me a bit of Chloe Sevigny, (http://adorocinema.cidadeinternet.com.br/personalidades/atores/chloe-sevigny/chloe-sevigny01.jpg) and that's not a bad thing.
