View Full Version : Friday Fun: Best Movie Fight Scene

On the radio yesterday the local guy talk/sports dudes were discussing the best fight scenes in movies. They weren't talking about the James Bond fights were they fight for 5 minutes, no one gets bloody, and Bond walks away without a hair out of place after dispatching 10 'guards.' Instead, they were talking about realistic, yeah that could've happened, people bleeding, out of breath ass kickings.

I thought with the movie knowledge and testosterone around here, it might make a worthy topic for some Friday afternoon fun.

And the Oscar goes to...

I'd say at least an honorable mention would have to be from "Fight Club". You are talking hand to hand combat, one on one, right?

I imagine it will probably end up that way, but I wouldn't exclude group fights. I imagine that most fights involving multiple people will end up looking choreographed like a bad Dukes of Hazzard barroom brawl.

I imagine a movie like Roadhouse would contain examples of one on one fights and group fights, but I don't know that I would consider any of them really 'good.'

Roddy Piper v Keith David in "They Live".I think bringing this fight up in a thead about "best" fight scenes should be a bannable offense. That scene was PAINFUL to watch. I didn't think that fight was ever going to end. It was like some studio exec said "Hey, this movie is about 10 minutes too short, what can we do to fill that time?"

I'd have to go with Fight Club for my vote.

Equilibrium

Is that the weird dystopian flick starring Christian Bale?

That was one of those movies you happen to catch that you'd never heard of before, but turns out to be shockingly awesome.

I'd have to nominate nearly every fight scene in The Musketeer.

Good call, that came quickly to mind for me as well.

I thought the fight scenes in The Transporter were very well done and memorable -- not sure how they stack up all time.

I agree that the boxing scenes from Raging Bull were very good.

My favorite fight scenes

(1) Kill Bill vol 1 - restaurant scene
(2) Perfect Weapon - Kenpo guy vs 3 TKD in dojang
(3) Best of the Best 1 - last fight of the tournament

From what I know of MA, #2 and #3 were real moves (ex. no special effects).

Assuming I'm not being completely naive and missing out on an older movie, I'll echo your thoughts towards the first Transporter. The bus barn fight was one of the most enjoyable fight scene's I had watched in a long time. Mostly because it was well done, but also because it was somewhat outside the box from most fight scene's that get put into movies. Not often you see something that stands out as being that different from the usual while being pulled off that well.

The house fight wasn't bad either, but the bike/oil/bus one just really stands out whenever I think about movie fight scenes.

I prefer John McClane vs. Karl in Die Hard. Lotta swearing as he's kicking Karl's ass.

I'd throw a shout out to Bloodsport's final fight as well.

The fight scene in Who Am I? with Jackie Chan on top of the building is a great one. He fights two guys that give each other about a minute to beat Jackie Chan. The first guy fights with his fists only. Jackie beats him. The second guy only kicks. Jackie beats him. Then they both say screw it, and attack Jackie at the same time. Great stuff.

Thomas Jane vs. The Russian (Kevin Nash) in The Punisher
Jet Li vs. Mel Gibson/Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon 4
Many of the Bourne Identity/Supremacy fights
Maximus vs. Commodus in Gladiator

It's already been mentioned a few times, but I'll echo anything from Fight Club as my top choice, though.

that movie is always very high on my "could have been executed better" list. Mediocre movies like that need remakes, not movies that were already good in the first place.

Every Gunkata fight sequence in Equilibrium

I loved the first Gunkata sequence, when he barges in the door and uses it as a skateboard before exterminating everyone.

And I loved the final sequence when Bale killed Taye Diggs in one fell swoop, followed by the final battle with the leader.

You guys are all way off. The best fight scene is from the movie "The Deep" when the big white dude who never says anything fights the big black dude with the creepy smile. They don't even say shit to each other, they just both get to work and when it ends with a neck snapping you don't even know who lost until it is revealed later. The boat motor was also a nice touch.

Honorable mention goes to the bestt fight we didn't get to see from season 1 of the Shield when they lock the two rival gangsta-rappers in a shipping crate overnight and only one comes out the next day.
