First the Czechs, then Canada. Gerber played his ass of against Canada today.

There was quite a bit of 'luck' involved in that win over the Canucks. I was happy for the Swiss, though - it's always nice to see an underdog win.

Incredible. I think this has been the best Olympic tournament since the pros came in.

wow
Surprising.
The Canadians looked tired and sloppy, and the Swiss played well.

I didn't see the whole game but that one goal with the goalie having his full glove behind the goal line sure did look like a goal to me... That other Canada goal that was disallowed, I didn't get why (player in the crease or high stick?) so I can't even comment...

FM...Bertuzzi was in the crease.
Full marks to the Swiss. They scored a goal early and played kitty bar the door hockey.Boring as shit but effective.

I saw the glove in hand....I didn't see the other. Even if the glove behind the line counted, Canada would still be done one.
Just curious, where are the refs coming from for the Olympics? Do they ref in the NHL? The Pro leagues in Europe?

The NHL sent over 6 refs or so, the rest are international refs.

Not to be appologetic for team Canada, but sometimes one goal against a hot goalie can break the dam.

I had heard numerous reports that the swiss had several holes in their game, but they are playing airtight right now.

They really didn't have any scoring to speak of, and no one expected their goaltending to play as well as it has. Gerber and Abi are good, but they have been on fire in the tournament.

Ehh.. they gave up 50 shots, and their goals were one weak one and one fluke bounce. I played goalie, and what Gerber did was AMAZING, and the Swiss have had two huge wins, but the Czech are 1-2 right now, and in both games they won their goalies have combined for 90 saves. It'll have to run out eventually, but they'll be in the pre-lims where it's three games to gold. Keeping up the hot streaks possible, but not probable.

thanks, I wasn't really sure. As I said, I only saw the highlights and the kid was screaming in the living room when they came on :)

I was gonna make about the same comment. In fact, it almost applies to any sport. You can't only go and say that a team would still be one score down because they were not given one. Bad calls are often momentum changer. I guess it's only the former ref in me that absolutely hates bad calls. Especially when they have instant replay...

Nobody even caught on that the SWISS have HOLES in their game. I know, I know.. it's CHEESY, but... :p
Anyway, they really are playing well I guess, considering they are supposed to suck in some capacity.

You didn't produce the Burger King "Your Cheesy" commerical did you?

I opted out of that due to previous engagements that I was obligated to honor, but I am considering pursuing Wendy's for an idea I have for a new burger.
I'm calling it the Cow Patty, and I think it should sell well in rural markets.
Looks like Finnish hockey can kill you too.

Amen to that :)
Canada loses to the Swiss and the Finns (Suomi).
Something is wrong with the Canadian team.
Maybe Pat Quinn can do what he does the the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Or perhaps he shouldn't.

Do we dump some blame on the Great One as well for picking such a big, but slow team for games on an Olympic ice surface? When Shane Doan is your best player, outside of your goalies, maybe that tells us that Canada needs more speed and less size.

Really, though, with their goalies, they shouldn't lose to anybody.
