Apparently it was on TV last night or the night before. Haven't heard anything about it here, so I don't know if anyone's seen it yet. Looks pretty solid, though I've heard people say that it gets away from the comic books...

It was aired during 24 last night. I loved it. The trailer looked amazing. It's odd because the geek community (mainly using aintitcoolnews.com as the reference) is a freakin' uproar about this movie. They hate it. Apparently some guy got a hold of the script and ripped it to shreds. Folks are very unhappy with the choice of Ratner (of "Rush Hour," "Family Man," and "Red Dragon" fame) as director. They consider him a hack. People are also pissed off about the costumes and the look of certain character (eg, the Beast (who I think looks fine) and the Juggernaught).

I have no idea. The trailer looked great. I got excited by it. (Then again the trailer for "The Phantom Menace" looked amazing too). I'll certainly be seeing it opening weekend. I love me some Wolverine and X-Men.

I would go see it for the "fastball special" shot alone.

As for "getting away from the comics"... I don't see how anyone could make that claim given the state of X-Men over the course of, say, the last 14-15 years. There have been so many various incarnations of the team (Uncanny, X-Men, Ultimate X-Men, Astonishing X-Men, etc.), the I don't think there is any coherent "comic" to get away from. If anything, the comics have gotten away from the comics.

It looks like they are taking the "mutant cure" sotry (which was last in Whedon's Astonishing X-Men) mixing it with a bit of "Dark Phoenix" and adding some "Warlocks" in there for good measure.

The movie does run the risk of trying to do too much, but we'll see.

Unfortunately no Nightcrawler. It's a shame, because that opening scene in X2 was amazing. I guess there is a limit of 2 blue mutants per film and Beast took his spot in this one.

The last time I really read X-Men was back in the early 90s.

Yeah, me too. I quit right after that big cross-over series that ended with Magneto ripping the adamantium out of Wolverine's bones. I think that was around 92-93.

I have been picking up Whedon's "Astonishing X-Men" when it comes out in trade paperback form. It's not too bad.

That was one of the all-time stupidest plot decisions... Wolverine running around with no adamantium for years... totally turned me off the series. It was nearly as lame as Storm running around (actually LEADING the X-men) with no powers for a few years in the late 80's... actually beating Cyclops in one-on-one combat, forcing him off the team, and leading the X-Men. Against super-powered bad guys. With no powers. Yes, this bothers me too much. Where do I belong on that nerd chart?

too bad about nightcrawler. I really liked that character. On the other hand, the trailer looks pretty kick ass. I'm not a comics guy, but I've enjoyed the first two X-Men movies.

I actually didn't mind when Storm lost her powers. It was kind of cool and good to see her become a bit of a bad-ass without 'em. I especially liked when Storm beat Cyclops for leadership of the team in the danger room. That was mainly because I hated (hate, and always will hate) Cyclops and I liked seeing that little punk bitch taken down.

Gay...

I hated it, and I found the whole notion that an unpowered person could run with super powered heroes and villains... I mean, that's like me playing fullback for the Washington Redskins. I'd last exactly one snap, and I'd be lucky not to end up quadriplegic. That's how "no powers Storm" should have ended up on the X-men. Crushed to dust the first time they came across a super-powered bad guy...

I didn't actually mind that too much. I was always more interested in Wolverine's solo comic series than X-Men, and I loved the soul-searching he went on immediately after he lost his adamantium.

What killed it for me, and was even more incredibly stupid, was when Wolverine began to regress in to some kind of animal not long after. That's when I quit reading.

I recently downloaded the entire collection of Wolverine comics up until quit recent times and began reading from issue 1, and there is some good stuff mixed in their amongst the crap - though I all too often started reading an issue thinking "Oooh... I remember this issue, this used to be a favourite of mine" before realising that I've grown up a LOT since then, and most of the plots are a lot worse than I recalled.

You read it. Storm picked the terrain. Even if you can shoot lasers out of your eyes, it wont do you a lick of good if someone jumps you from behind, no?

What about Batman? He was an "unpowered person" who ran with super powered heroes and villains all the time!

First of all, I never got into Batman comics. I like him as a vigilante taking on ordinary criminals, but I don't like him as part of the Justice League or anything like that. He's clearly outclassed in the company of Superman (dear God... please stop me... I can't believe I'm having this argument...)

Besides, from a physiological standpoint, Batman would be at least 50% stronger than Storm on her best day. Add the armored suit, a belt full of weaponry, and a pimped out ride, and there's no way Storm (wearing leather pants, matching vest, and a tube top) is going to take him, or any other superhero/villain, in any fight, under any condition.

Found them on BitTorrent. Each individual issue was compressed in to a file that is very similar to a pdf file, but has it's own extension (.cmc I think) and software needed to view it.

The file also included the vast majority of Wolverine mini-series and graphic novels.

I will take the suspension of belief that Storm and the others are well trained fighters even without their powers before the 80s and 90s Xmen comics that dealt with magic and demons. Yuck.

And yes, the trailer is really kick ass. I hear that there are some big events in the movie that never really happen in the comics, but so many crazy events have happened to all the different Xmen over the course of all the titles that I think it should be understandable if the movies go in their own direction.

I agree, 2nd was much better than the 1st. I find it hard to watch the 1st these days, but the 2nd is still a really good movie - much better than expected.
