View Full Version : Lunch or No Lunch?

Something has been bothering me today and was hoping some of you can give me your opinion. I'll make it short.
Backstory: We've been shortstaffed since about October of '05. This week, my supervisor has given me job duties of another position. The problem is, it has taken up ALL of my time; I haven't even touched the stuff I was originally hired for. They say it's only "temporary" until they hire someone for that position. I've had so much to do that I haven't even touched the stuff I was hired for.
So here's the thing, she won about $20,000 at a casino and she's taking everyone to lunch. We got an email invitation last week and she says we're going to Sizzler. Freaking awesome right? Well today, she calls everyone to an "emergency meeting", except me. As she was calling us, the lady looked right at me (I saw her through the corner of my eye), and called the girl in the cubicle next to me. So she changes the location to Claim Jumper.
What the hell? So she calls the girl next to me and completely ignores me? In 6 weeks I'm giving my 2 week notice (we're moving to Austin), so I'm wondering, should I go the lunch or not? If I was staying, I probably wouldn't go, but the other part of me wants to disrupt their little lunch.
Am I being a typical chick and reading into something that's not there? I think she's upset because I haven't been working on my stuff.
How say you FOFC?

I'm confused. Were you invited to the lunch?

I received an email invitation last week, so I'd say yes.

Free lunch? I'd never turn that down. I'd take her free lunch but wouldn't disrupt it. You never know when you might need a job reference.

I think two things, or actually three. One, you are right about the work part. If you feel like you've been neglecting work, trust me, others will too. My advice there would be to confront the issue directly with a request on how to prioritize. These new responsibilities are taking all your time, come up with a task list and how many hours each one is taking. The more specific you get, the more solid your argument is.
Two, go to the lunch. You were on the original invite.
Three, the non-update on the invite really sounds like something a woman would only do to another woman. Just an interesting side persperctive.

Forgot, four - she wins $20,000 and she's taking you to Claim Jumper? I vote for an immediate trouting. It can't wait.

Your trout option actually sounds like the best course of action here... no kidding... I'd actually help pay for the fish if you're really going to leave it in her desk.

If I had a staff, I would take them to Sizzler if I had won $100. Hell, I don't think I would even think of Sizzler, maybe bennigans or something. If I won $20K, I would be taking my staff out to something alot better than that.
I'd go in and defecate on her desk. And if you dont get fired for that, bring in something to fling the poop at her until she does fire you.

Get the Parmesean Garlic Rings for an appetizer and Baby Back Ribs Lunch Platter for the main course.

Don't go and then never think of it again, life's too short. It's also to short not to leave a trout in her desk before she gets back.

Why attend if you think you are not welcome?
Plus, if you worm your way in you may come across as "the bitch". If you let yourself get shut out of the luncheon, your supervisor will probably come across that way.
You should be able to coast on the office sympathy/guilt for the next few weeks.

Exactly my thoughts, that's why I'm considering not going.

get Ant to help you dissassemble her desk one night after she has left and hide the rotting trout in a cutout in the wood behind one of the drawers (where it can't be reached). THAT would be the manly thing to do.
