View Full Version : The Weirdest Thing Happened To Me This Morning

Early this morning, I woke up needing to use the bathroom. As I was doing my thing, my nose began to itch, so I tried to scratch it. The weird thing was that everytime I tried to scratch it, I couldn't get my fingers on my right hand to touch my nose. They instead would go to the left side of my face. I tried my left hand and I could do it without any problems. What is even weirder was that my arm was not asleep.
I went back to bed and I awoke to find that my hand is working fine.
Has anyone ever had something like that happened?

Well, I don't think it is serious yet. I do have an appointment with my neurosurgeon on the 15th. I'll tell him then and see what he has to say.

With the kind of luck I have, I wouldn't be surprised. :D

You say that you are seeing your neurosurgeon. Have you had issues in the past? Forgive me if you've shared some of this on the board before, but I must have missed it.

"What's the matter, mister kimbal?"
"Oh, I have a headache."
"Maybe it's a tumor!"
"It's not a tumor. It's not a tumor. At all."

Completely True Story:
Several years ago my wife had a headache which was an uncommon side effect of a drug she had just started taking. She called in to her doctor's office to tell them and basically ask for a different drug. Her doctor wasn't there so she talked to the doctor on call. She told him what was going on and his response was "That's not a side effect of the drug so I don't think it's the drug, it's possibly a brain tumor. You need to come in immediately for an exam." Yes, he diagnosed my wife for a brain tumor over the phone based on her having a headache...

And people say doctors don't care about having a good bedside manner.

Duckman, you and I can suffer through neuro appointments together...I have mine on the 16th and am having a spinal tap done :( My CT and MRI were normal (which is a good thing) but that doesn't help to explain why I've been having pain behind my eye for about a month now (which is a bad thing).
I'm just glad my wife has a medical background. She laughed the guy off and just contacted her regular doctor the next day. There's probably people out there that would have freaked out being told something like that over the phone though. Of course, the look on her face while she was on the phone with the guy was priceless. :D

I had surgery last year for my neck. I had the back of two vertebrae at the base of my skull removed because the canal was filling up.

I'm going in for an EMG/NCV. They're basically sticking me with needles in my right arm and sending electricity into them to see how my nerves are working. I had this done when I was in the Air Force on my right leg. It's not fun, but it's better than a spinal tap IMO.

I saw a movie like that once. Turned out the guy had lost a hand and had a hand from an executed murderer sewn on to replace it. It strangled him in the end. So watch out for that.

No problem. I was already pretty stressed about it - you didn't make it any worse :)
