1. Wrath of Khan
2. Generations
3. Voyage Home (had a lot of humor in it)

I picked First Contact, simply because I felt that it was a better stand alone movie than 2, also I think it did a slightly better job of having the spirit of Star Trek and mixing it in with good action and such. Kahn has better moments though.

Dola, I will say also, that for me 2, 6, and 8 are clearly the best movies. Undiscovered Country is really underrated. Sure, its got some silly moments and might go a bit far on the cold war analogies, but its the best Star Trek has to offer in terms of political intrigue. (Which may not be saying much depending on one's point of view though...)

As someone who has all of the special editions of the DVDs (much to Mrs. SpeechCoach's chagrin), 2 is the best, with 8, 6, and 4, but 3 is surprisingly addictive.

Almost got the 'director's cut' of Star Trek 1: The Motion Picture. They supposedly made some fixes to what was pretty much a slide show.

BTW, since the thread didn't make the cutoff I'll put it up here...tomorrow night (Sunday) at 8:00 p on History Channel "How William Shatner Changed the Universe!" Has to do with Shatner and all the modern-day gadgets he inspired like cell phones.

Then March 22 Shatner is featured in "Living in TV Land." I think he may well be approaching Elvis status!

The Director's Cut of 1 is still too long, plodding, and boring, but the redone effects shots are really gorgeous.

10. Star Trek I: The Motion Picture - Way too long, did tell the story though.
Kirk-"For us?" Spock-"No, for Vger"
9. Star Trek VII: Generations - Had its moments, but I felt the ending was lackluster.
Kirk-" It....was fun"
8. Star Trek VIIII: Insurrection - Simply put, this movie felt like one of the regular episodes, just longer.
Riker-" I'm through Running from these bastards"
7. Star Trek V: The Final Frontier - The first 30 minutes were great, then it went downhill from there.
McCoy-" Get that damn light outta my face!"
6. Star Trek III: The Search For Spock - Not bad, just not good.
McCoy-" How can you be deaf with ears that big?"
5. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country - I actually liked all the cold war theme it had to it.
Kirk- "We Volunteered?"
4. Star Trek X: Nemesis- Dark theme, great action, it ended with the death of a mian character, but also a rebirth.
Picard- "He thinks he knows me"
3. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home - Certainly the mosy humorous of the bunch, nice story, and oddly exciting.
Kirk-"Well, double damn you!"

Whichever one had the whales in it gets my vote...I think it's the only one I've watched voluntarily in my life. I saw Generations when it came out but only b/c I was dragged by the idiot I was dating at the time. Clearly, I saw the light and dumped his trekkie ass!

Hmmm. Everyone loves first contact, but I remember being underwhelmed when I saw it. I was never really into the whole Borg thing. Q was so much more interesting.

Really? Wow. That two parter that spanned between seasons 3 & 4 where Picard was Locutus and the whole Wolf 359 thing was some of the best Star Trek had to offer, I thought.

Though, anything with the Borg from the Hugh travestry forward was pretty bad. From the Hugh episode on, the Borg became lame, boring, and non-threatening. The whole Lore and the Borg thing was lame. And while I didn't watch it, I just assume anything on Voyager was lame.

While, First Contact was post-Hugh, I still liked it. Thought it worked well.

tough choice for me between 6 and 2....but the plot and writing in undiscovered country was so much snappier and craftier. the whole gigantic Chekov Paradox in Khan has always bothered me as well.

Chekov was not yet a member of the Enterprise crew when the original Khan episode aired, yet Khan makes such a dramatic point of recognizing Chekov in Wrath of Khan.

Of course, the fact that Khan refers to him as Mister...Jackoff!! always seemed a fair tradeoff to me.

(Personal opinion of course) The Wrath of Khan was miles beyond any of the other movies. The Voyage Home was great, and I enjoyed The Undiscovered Country. I've always had a problem rating The Next Generation crew against the original cast, so I find it hard to compare Generations or First Contact with any of the 'original' six movies.

I've always wanted Q to show up in the TNG movies, but it never happened. I loved the Borg, but the more they involved them in TNG and Voyager, the weaker they got. Plus the writers of Voyager kept constantly changing the nature of Q that they nearly ruined them as well.

Wrath of Khan was the best. I always rationalized the whole Checkov thing by figuring that he was on the ship, just not part of the bridge crew yet.

I agree with Kodos(?) that ST3 is very addicting. I hated it at first, but after watching it again, it was pretty good.
