The seeding in this thing looks like that Harris Poll from college football.
Right, because Dean Smith being on the committee means that it's going to be fair and objective. Whatever.

Why are the 7 seeds playing the 8s and the 9s playing the 10s, instead of the 7s with the 10s and the 8s with the 9s?

Seedings might suggest that Missouri St & Creighton weren't even the last teams out of the Dance.

it appears that the 9's play the 10's and 7's play 8's so that it guarantees the 1 seeds play the lowest seed. just my thoughts

Coastal Carolina didn't make it. :(

Who needs mid-majors when we can have teams that are barely .500 from major conferences?!

Go Penn State! I think I am driving up for the game on Tuesday

If things go as seeded they'll get a Maryland, Michigan, Cincy, Louisville Final Four. A lot of years that would be a great NCAA Final Four.
This is a bit tinfoil hatish, but it sure looks to me like some of the majors didn't make the NCAA so that the NIT would be stronger for TV and ticket sales.

Yes big Penn State fan. I have season football tickets and traveled to Michigan, Michigan St, and to the Orange Bowl to watch them. I never went to school there, my parents did. But I still bleed blue and white.

Kool. Sounds like great trips. Gotta love tailgatting up in Happy Valley. Always a ton of fun when I played up there.

Agreed. The NCAA owning the NIT is just part of the boondoggle now.

They sure did Jeeb.. Playing a Opening Round/Play-In Game... Awful.
Sad to see the so-called new and improved NIT keep the same standard as they had previously... If you are from one of the BCS Conferences and have a above .500 record, you are in. Ridiculous.

Andy Katz just reported that the next team the committee had rated to make the tournament was Western Kentucky (i.e. first one out) who is a 6 here.
IMO, it definitely looks like these seeds were given to try to get name schools easier paths to make the final four, rather than on the strength of the team. Maryland is certainly not one of the best four teams in this field, in fact, since they lost their best player, they are probably one of the weakest (and certainly they are not as good as UTEP).

The Miners are taking it to Lipscolm at the half, 44-23... :)

And of course the Miners have come out as flat as can be in the second half...

Quincy Douby dropped 32 on Penn State to lead Rutgers to a 76-71 win and also tie the Rutgers' single season scoring record.

Jason Williams needs one more rebound to become the first Miner ever to record a triple-double. Three minutes and change left in the game with the Miners up 18...hopefully Doc leaves him in so that he can get his board.
