To owners of both games...how often do you run concurrent season in TCY and import the draft class into your FOF league? Is there much immersion factor in following players from college to the pros?

i haven't played TCY since about 3 or so months since it came out. just not that into the college game (mostly due to my alma mater never being in Div 1A). i'm a FOF fanboy all the way.

Ditto except that my alma mater is Div 1A, but just barely.

I just can't get into TCY too much anymore. I tried a month ago or so and just feel it has to be updated. I love the game, but can't play it for long right now.

The Imperial League does use TCY for our draft classes though. I started out doing weekly updates on the college game, and doing a few profiles on players every week, to help build history for the guys coming into the league. I would put up stats too.

But the last couple seasons I haven't been doing the online stuff because it takes a ton of time, and I just haven't been able to do it anymore. I have been giving out the league files though, and trying to do write ups like this... http://www.imperialfl.us/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=2850 .... to give some guys back ground info.

I like to have history for guys coming into the league via the draft. This is why I hope updated versions of FOF and TCY come out over the next year and a half, with TCY being MP and having HTML export.

I mix some TCY Draft files into FOF2, but not in my main FOF2 career (Real49ersFootball), i have a separate FOF2 career in which the main purpose is indeed to bring in the TCY Draft files.

Aside from that, I always use the game's generated Draft files.

I haven't seriously played TCY in quite a long time. While I did play it though, I thought it was one of the most challenging and rewarding gaming experiences I've ever had.

I still import draft classes from TCY, and I think there's a pretty great immersion factor, but TCY, as much as I love it, really needs an upgrade to gel a little better with FOF2004. Soemtimes in TCY a player does'nt really break-out until his senior year, and it's cool to se what happens afterwards.

It was the most challenging and rewarding experience until I learned about the intelligence bug...but regardless, with simple house rules, it would still entertain me. I just don't feel like updating all the schools prior to playing now.

I'd like to see more schools represented in the next iteration.

EDIT: Oh, and I think I played about 15 seasons of FOF and TCY together. That was about it. I just didn't find any corrolation between the players in TCY and their new pro careers. And I admit I never tried it again after the patch that was supposed to address that issue.

yeah, you hate it when the #1 pick in the FOF draft happens to be a former third string WR at U-Mary University (Dakota) who hauled in a grand total of 6 passes in his TCY career...

After going through some of these drafts at close looks for the Imperial League, a lot of the high rated guys who have no stats were actually high rated in TCY. They end up with zero stats because they were suspended for one reason or the other.

There are still plenty of odd guys though. The backup QB rated higher then the started once in the draft, and stuff like that.

Perfect fix, make GS count for something in the import from TCY to FOF. :)

Exactly why I don't do TCY -> FOF anymore.

What was the intelligence bug?

I gave up on the TCY -> FOF2k4 import for our office league because of various issues with the draft classes. The breaking point was the discovery that every TE had a zero for big play receiving. We tended to find the TCY draft classes top and bottom heavy without enough in the middle as well.

If you were a low level school, you could stack your recruiting efforts to pick up players with great test scores (regardless of skill) and endure a few losing seasons while you pumped up your Educational Prestige. Once you did that, you could then increase the pool of players from which to recruit. And just build upon that until you were an elite team.

The trick was to do it quickly, I think the window of opportunity was the first 10 years of your career.....to really exploit it....but that's just something I read here.

Ahh, THAT intelligence bug. For some reason I though there was an intelligence bug in the TCY -> FOF import process I hadn't heard of. I had too much TCY -> FOF on the brain when reading your post.

Yeah, that was a pretty easy way to get on top in TCY.

I did that with Army. From the get-go, West Point is an elite school so it was always pretty easy to recruit good athletes. Then, it just snowballs from there.

I did that with Army.

That's not just a bug. That's a showstopper.

BURN!!! :p

I've done it occasionally but TCY is so outdated I don't even bother with that anymore.

I just stick with the 1970 base file and import draft classes from then after.

Cringer edits the draft file for the TEs, not sure how he comes up with the numbers, but it works well. I've actually notice more of a lack of top talent, with a good amount of middle ranged talent, with a little bottom talent. I actually prefer this, since most players aren't all around studs.
