What was that blonde beer that you had cartman and me try at TFS? Was it Duvel?
I was there last night and tried to remember. Either way, Duvel is quality stuff for a blonde...

Mmm... Duvel. It's a tasty, tasty beer. Biggest head on a beer I've ever seen. Powerful stuff too. I suffered greatly following many an evening downing Duvels.

Why did you ping Lathum? When I got there he was drinking Miller Lite! :D
I don't remember Duvel. However, I do remember a Hefeweisen or three.

I thought he made both of us try it, but it may have been just me...
And yeah, I think the Duvel was the only thing other than Miller Lite that he drank all night long... :D

Not just Miller Lite, but all crappy lite beers. Expecially drinking them in a place like The Flying Sacuer which has hundreds of much better beers... :D

according to the lie that lathum told me about drinking a beer that didnt suck, you guys had a Duvel...if you want to try similar things, try some Chimay, its a little easier to find, the "Blue" is the same style as a duvel

For what it's worth, almost all Belgian beers have their own special mug/glass. They say that the glasses are designed to bring out the special flavor of the beer, etc. Eh, I don't know if I buy that or not. I had plenty of Leffe brun/blonde is Leffe glass and a few in pint glasses. They were both tasty. I think it's more a marketing thing than anything nowadays.

One of the nicer liquor stores in my aread carries some of the Unibroue beers. So if I can find them down here I would imagine you would have a fairly easy time up north...

you certainly have a duty to check them out. When I worked in Pittsfield MA and was coming back to my parents place every couple of months, I was bringing back a six pack sampler with me for an employee of mine. After one six pack, I had him completely addicted to it :D

the right glass absolutely has a ton to do with how the beer presents itself to you. first, the correctly shaped glass creates the correct head. if you pour the same bottle of duvel into the tulip glass in the picture above and into a straight sided pint glass, the results will be significantly differnt. the pint glass would probably overflow with foam and leave about 2 oz of beer at the bottom. second, in the straight sided glass, there is not enough movement in the beer to release the aroma while you are drinking it, or if you just wanted to smell it, you couldnt circle/swirl the beer without spilling it. and since smell affects taste, if you dont get all the aroma of the beer, you subsequently dont get all the flavor either.
IMO, crappy american beers are served in crappy glasses because most people dont care about all the other aspects of the beer, all they care about is "if it tastes like beer" and "it gets me drunk".
if you want a little more info about how the glass affects the beer, take a look at this article.

Picture taken today at home after work. If you wanna laugh, look where the sleeve on my right arm ends (the one with the glass in its hand). See that white mark there? This is how high the snow still is on our backyard deck :)
And here's a pic of the bottle and the Eau Bénite glass...
http://static.flickr.com/48/113939984_163d43b974_o.jpg
It is a damn fine beer, 7.7% of alcohol and a kinda fruity taste, very nice :)
And with that size, at 750ml, 7.7% is strong enough. The Maudite or the Fin du Monde are tougher at 9 and 8% respectively...
