I am thinking of getting the LG VX8100 for verizon.

Sprint (well made by Audiovox through HTC) PPC 6700.

Brand new...frikkin amazing. Tons of money, but tons of worth it. It literally is like a pocket computer. i could even be posting this from it (if i wasn't sitting at home in front of Stargate SG-1 :) )

LG VX 6500.

Absolutely love it.

Things I lik eabout it:

1) Date, time, bars & battery visible without un-flipping the phone.
2) One-touch manner mode
3) One-touch speed dial
4) One-touch speaker phone
5) No camera!!!
6) 3 Alarm Clocks with customizable ringtones!

I've got two: The RAZR, and the Sony Ericsson P800.

The RAZR is pretty much the only one I use anymore. They have out now in Europe the ones that support UMTS/3G. I'll have to pick one of those up on my next trip over.

Not at all. I think it was a problem with a recent production run, from what I can gather.

In fact, I had the opposite experience. I live a bit out in the boondocks, and the Sony Ericsson would only get one bar at most at my house. Once I got the RAZR, I consistently got 3 or 4 bars at home.

Yeah, I'm looking at that if I want to go that route. I'm not sure I want to plunk down $300 for it, though, a year after spending $200 for a Blackberry through T-Mobile (which has terrible coverage here, so were ditching it once our 1-year contract is up). Provider-specific phones are a racket.

I live in the middle of a huge Valley, so I don't really get many bars at home at all. My cheaper crap emergency cell phone maybe gets a half of a bar until i get out of the valley, the Razr consistantly gets about 1. My wife hasn't complained about it, so I'd say that it works good when its not in the middle of nowhere.

The other thing about getting a 650 is that the 700w just came out for Verizon, and if I'm looking at a 2-year commitment, I'd want a phone that will be worth having for 2 years. I assume Verizon won't have exclusive rights to the 700 forever. I just don't want to be the idiot who buys last year's model right before a complete overhaul (which I'm sensitive to with cars, anyway).

It might be worth holding out for a couple of months to get the 700. But the 650 is almost two years old now, and I still think it's a great little phone/pda.

Could be, I was in Cingular about 3-4 weeks ago asking about the Treos...I asked specifically if they had one that ran Mobile Windows instead of Palm OS and he told me the new Treo did and they had 2 of them in stock but had already sold them. I figured they only had one new Treo coming out but I could be wrong on that...

I have a RAZR and I like it a lot. If you just want a simple phone without all the extras its really perfect because of the size. I used to have a Nokia 6500 which was really nice for email and web browsing (while still smaller than a PDA/phone hybrid), but it was a bit too bulky for my tastes.

I have a Motorola. I think it is an A840. I picked it because it was supposed to have the best signal strength and my old phone used to drop calls if I was in certain thick buildings which was annoying. This phone hasn't dropped one call in the 3 months I've had it even in some of the most dense buildings.

Got the same phone as Daddy and yes it the coolest thing I have owned (it has been out since Sept but it was hard to find_).. If you can afford this piece of paradise and get by some of the quirks, it's the top of the line of the pda/phone combo's..

DaddyTorgo - There is a new update out for out phones that adds voicedial, device lock, and a whole slew of other features.. Seems to work fine except that I couldn't port the audio through my bluetooth headset like normal after the update.. I almost missed part of the Uconn game.. Yep its getting better reviews than the Motorola Razr V3.

Also seems like there problems with the Motorola Razr V3 with drop calls.

March 10, 2006: 3:39 PM EST

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Cingular Wireless and T-Mobile USA have temporarily stopped selling the Razr, Motorola's flagship cell phone, due to a technical glitch that causes the phone to drop calls or shut down, the companies said Friday.

Motorola said only a limited number of phones were affected and the problem would have no impact on its financial results. The Razr, lauded for its thin design, was first sold in late 2004 and is still a key product for Motorola.

One analyst, Ed Snyder of Charter Equity Research, said he did not expect a material impact from the problem but expressed concerns about how Motorola manages its suppliers.

Sprint will be the next to get the 700p which is the Palm edition phone, as soon as 6/1 but later most likely.. 700w with WinMobile5 could be out anytime soon for Sprint also but most likely still a ways off.. If you like Palm check out the 700p with new OS, but WinMobile5 is pretty impressive once I got the hang of it..

Now its not.. If you are moving to Alltel and our willing to spend $300 on a 650 look into the HTC 6700 that I have and convinced DaddyTorgo to get.. It will set you back a pretty penny, but you won't have to upgrade for a longtime, it has everything ya need (Bluetooth, Wifi, EVDO).. The 6700 with EVDO vs a Treo 650 isn't even a fair fight really, so coming from a Blackberry you will be blown away..

How often should we charge up a cell phone? Is it safe to charge it overnight daily?

In the manual it says it takes about 3.5 hours to charge it up fully. What happens if you charge it more than that? will it hurt the battery?

I ended up getting the LG 8100 for verizon.

JeeberD
03-20-2006, 09:20 PM
You usually don't want to charge it until the battery is low. If you charge it too often when it still has juice you'll mess up the batteries memory.

As far as I know you can't charge a battery too long.

Ksyrup
03-20-2006, 09:25 PM
With my Blackberry, they actually suggest charging it daily and not letting the battery run low. Not sure if that's the same for all PDA phones, but I know that's not the case for regular phones.

From what I gathered, most new rechargeable batteries don't have memories anymore and they often recommend just what Ksyrup said, i.e. recharge often and don't let it go too low. I think that applies to cell phone batteries too...

As for my phone, it's a very simplistic clamshell, a LG TM520. No color screens, no downloadable ringtones, nor wallpapers, nor games. But it does the trick and I only have to add $10 a month to use it as security on the road...

Just a note: if you use the Walkie-talkie features, you'll have to stick with Nextel for a while. The Sprint phones and Nextel phones still operate on different networks (based on different technologies), so the coverage and some of the features won't be the same when you switch phones.

But if you don't use the walkie-talkie features, your Sprint phone will definitely be lighter. The push to talk stuff accounts for most of the bulkiness/weight of the Nextel phones.

My Nokia phone is so old Cingular doesn't even have it on their site anymore :)

I got this model 4 years ago, and about 3 years ago I dropped it in a sink full of water and killed it so I got a new one of the same model. So the phone I have is 3 years and the model is more then 4 years old. The phone is awesome and I refuse to ever get a new one. The battery is amazing, the service is excellent (never drops out, rarely ever fuzzy) and it has what I want in a phone (caller ID, phone book, alarm clock and text messaging).
