New York now has three picks in the top 35, including its No. 4 overall selection. That bodes well for new coach Eric Mangini, who said when he was hired he wanted to build through the draft.

Didn't they have 4 picks in the 1st round a few years back? That was the year they traded Keyshawn. I remember they took Abraham with one pick, but don't remember the rest.

Yep - of the top of my head, they took Abraham, Ellis, Anthony Becht, and a 4th guy I can't recall.

The niners had a shedload of high picks a few years back. If I remember correctly, they built practically their entire secondary from rookies over 2 years.

I thought they'd be set for a decade but somehow they managed to end up over budget and are doing that whole rebuilding thing again.

Oh yeah! I remember now watching all the Jets fans get pissed, wanting the team to take Pennington when they took Abraham. When they called Abraham's name, the fans were all like, who?

Good times.

The best "real life FOF" move was still the Eagles a few years ago, when they drafted a QB in the late rounds even though they didn't need one, waited a few years for him to develop semi-decent ratings, and then traded him to a team desperate for QB help for a second round pick. That move is always golden.

Speaking of the Jets "gaming", isn't there a rule out there that states a team cannot use the franchise tag marker just to keep a player they plan to trade anyway? I am sure there is a rule like that.

I imagine it's subject to interpretation and, therefore, hard to enforce, but isn't that what the Jets pretty much did here? I never recall the Jets ever thinking seriously about keeping Abraham. I guess the obvious spin is for the Jets to say they fully intended to keep him, but the player didn't want to stay so they traded him to grant his desire.

Puts how bad that trade was for the Dolphons into perspective: Feeley vs Culpepper - both for 2nd rounders

Yeah, i remember this relating to Sean Gilbert when he got traded from Washington to Carolina. He sat out the entire year on year in protest of being franchised, then Washington tagged him again.
