Need help with live video/chat

Gonna be away from the family members for a little bit and thought about getting a couple of webcams to talk and see each other. Are there any free services out there for this? Basically, want to talk like I'm on the phone but with video. My guess the video is a bit choppy and maybe out of sink with voice but that would be ok. So, is this free or do I have to pay?

I did some searches and came up with Paltalk.com. Is this legit? Can you do it with the basic Windows messenger?

Any help much appreciated.

why not just use yahoo IM? Should work fine for what you want to use it for
