I hope so, because I haven't yet heard of the "Battlestar Galactica" browser...

I have a hunch he means Firefly.
Given that they're 2 sci-fi series...

A fella can't expect to post flawlessly.
I have never watched the new Battlestar Galactica, but people love it. Love it. Geeks around the world claim it's pretty much one of the best shows (of that genre) ever. I wouldn't reckon that you'd go wrong buying the DVDs.
That said, I love Firefly. I think it's some of the best TV ever. I would give it the highest of recommendations. It's brilliant.

I've only seen a few of each (Firefly and BSG). I did see the Firefly movie (Serenity) and I thought that was horrendous, but I hadn't seen the show before seeing the movie. My feeling on the episodes of the show that I watched was that they were infinitely better than the movie, perhaps even worthwhile (I'm not a fan of Joss Wheadon, though, so I already have some bias going on).
If it were me, I'd probably go for BSG. If nothing else, there are more espisodes of it to keep you entertained than Firefly. ;)

Oh come on, give him a break! Without an edit button, fixing silly goofs like that is pretty difficult. "Firefox" is so commonplace now that anytime I think of "fire," I almost instinctively put "fox" at the end of it, so it's an understandable mistake!!!

Speaking as someone who doesn't really give a shit about sci-fi shows, I think both Firefly and BSG are examples of great television.
What I love about both is they heavily focus on character development, something missing from most sci-fi shows that tend to go for standalone episodes. Both shows have a vast array of characters that are very interesting. You can't go wrong with either one.
The one difference I will note is that BSG is very serious, while Firefly has alot of great campy humor (it doesn't get better than "Our Mrs. Reynolds").

Yeah, but to get completely caught up on BSG will cost alot more than buying the entire Foxfire series plus the movie.

Firefly.
I'm a fan of both, but seriously the folks claiming that BSG is one of the best things on TV now or best sci-fi shows of all time, plainly need some more exposure.
BSG has had a few episodes that rise to any level of greatness. Firefly, in its fourteen episodes, had at least as many.
One of the biggest problems with BSG is the writing. I find it canned and predictable. The resulting characters are stereotypical and wooden. I honestly wouldn't care if any of the main characters died, well except for the hot blonde. That would suck.

Wow, calling BSG wooden and predictable, and claiming firely is better? How does that work? Firefly is one of the most predictable writings I've ever watched. I love the show and all, but you can see the punchlines coming 10 minutes ahead. And beyond that it lacks any credible dramatic plotlines to speak of.
BSG is a dramatic series, its going to have some predictable characters and dialog. Its not really the writing thats wooden, its the actors, and as the show has ggrown, so has the acting. Very few of the characters are still the deadwood types still trying to find their own "style"
I say buy BSG, its ongoing and has more to offer than a 14 show run and one film.

I certainly don't think Firefly was wooden in any way. I don't think I'd give much ground on predictability either, but that is apparently a matter of perception. As for dramatic plot lines, in Firefly there were driving plotlines. It wasn't a simple serial.
The biggest difference, to me, between BSG and Firefly were the characters. I cared about the characters in Firefly. I honestly don't care if Starbuck lives or dies. Same goes for Apollo. I cared more about the original campy Starbuck and Apollo than these pretenders. It has to do with both the actors and the writing. It's sad that Richard Hatch (that is the original Apollo and not the Survivor guy right?) is one of the more convincing actors on the set.
Don't get me wrong. Like I said I'm a fan of both shows, but, in my mind, Firefly is heads and shoulders above BSG in quality.

Ok, we'll just have to disagree then, because richard hatch is the single WORST character in BSG. My issues with Firefly are simply that none of them, save the captain are even mildly believable. His exec does nothing but act the thug, his pilot is nothing more than comic relief, the stow-aways are a dangling metaphor for a "we don't have a real plot, lets do something with them". Jayne...wow, can't even describe what he adds to the show....
Again, this is all personal point of view. Firefly is fun, its entertaining, but it doesn't have any "bring me back next week" value.
BSG is a story about humanity, no-one is going to like all of the characters in it, or any of them even, because their NOT fake. They're just human. Simple, broken, fallible human beings. Even the nemisis characters, the cylons, are given human frailty. The general public, for most points, doesn't "like" seeing joe-human being as the main roles in a show. Its not what they "want" to see. That is exactly why BSG is so much better IMO, they take joe human being, and show them at their best, their worst, and everything in between.
Firefly is typical made up entertainment.
BSG is humanity MADE entertaining.
The second one is so much harder than the first. hence my oponion that BSG is far beyond firefly in quality.
But as I said, we'll probably just have to disagree.

Put me in the camp that says you should get Battlestar Galactica over Firefly. Firefly is entertaining, but BG is far better. As RenderR said, BG is about humanity, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Firefly is much more conventional with its cast.

My issues with Firefly are simply that none of them, save the captain are even mildly believable.
I have to take issue with this - I think the characters in Firefly are pretty well rounded actually, they took pains to show different sides to most of the characters* and none of them come across as 'wooden' imho.
*Jane - softer side shown in 'Town called Jane', guilt shown in various episodes.
Doctor - shown wrestling with trying to look after his sister but being attracted to Kaylee.
Kaylee - comes across as light fluffy and innocent, yet you find out she isn't so 'innocent' during one of the episodes.
(if that lot came across as 'strained' its because I'm trying not to give too much away for people who haven't seen it)
I'd also say that Firefly has some great originality in its plotlines and is more 'gritty' and 'realistic' (as far as sci-fi goes ;) ) with its presentation of life in the future.
In essence I love both shows, but watching each episode of Firefly felt like eating a fattening treat during a diet, whereas BSG is simply good ..

Gritty, perhaps, but realistic? Come on now. If you're a fan of westerns and fantasy fiction, perhaps this seems realistic to you, but there is very little realism in firefly at all.
From the sects of society to the misbegotten "old west" lifestyle on the "moons" its not even mildy realistic.
If you were to "terraform" a planet, whould you then simply leave it to "cowboys"? No, you would develope it with all the technology available to you so it would produce a return on the terraforming investment.
This is a key flaw in the firefly "reality" their whole premise is fantastical, its a fairy tale land to tell fairy tale stories of heroism of a few.
Great for an hour of fun, not so great on the realism part.
I love both shows, and I really do enjoy every hour of firefly. but when you look at the whole of both, BSG still has a higher quality of product. (IM oh so HO)

I was about to say that :D. Firefly is perhaps the most unrealistic sci-fi show ever. Then again, I guess you can say it isn't really sci-fi at all, but more fantasy in the guise of sci-fi.

Yup. Though I will say that Firefly ran so short, it didn't have time for a downside, or a disaster like the middle of Season 2 of BSG. I'm just bitter every time I watch Firefly and know that Fox cancelled it for reality show du jour.
