I brought this idea up a while ago, but it didn't seem to gain a lot of traction at the time. I was curious to see if there was any more interest now. I'd like to setup an FOFC heads up tournament. Stars would be the best place to set this up at since they allow the creation of private heads up tournaments. I would have to look into what buy ins they allow, but I was just thinking something along the lines of 5-10 dollars Edit: I can't create a tournament for less than $10 so the tournament will be a $10+1 . Would there be any interest in something like this?
Tournament Format
There has been some questions below on how the tournament works so I will try and give a description of how this will come together. Whatever fee for the tournament we settle on will be a one time fee just like a regular sit and go. So if we went with $10 then it would be a 10 + 1. We will need to settle on a time for everyone as the tournament takes place at all at once. If we have 16 people we will all be split up into 8 heads up matches randomly by Stars at the same time. Once each of those 8 matches are completed the winners will then be randomly paird up by Stars for the next round and then down to two etc. It's a bracket-style tournamnet just like the NCAA tournament. Depending on the number of participants we could have some buys in the first round. The number of places paid out is determined by the total number of entries.
We will use NL Hold 'Em for this tournament. If we has some support for limit hold 'em as well I wouldn't mind trying to setup another tournament in the future with that format. For now though we will go with no-limit. Whatever time we settle on make sure you block out a few hours for the tournament to complete. The next round doesn't start until everyone in the current round finishes their match. In the first round everyone starts with 1,500 chips and the blinds are 10/20 and escalate along the normal Stars timeline. The second round everyone starts with 3,000 chips and the blinds start at 20/40 and so on. If you ahve any questions or I haven't been clear enough let me know.
I will keep a list of the people interested below.

If it's a single, heads-up MTT (ie, bracket-style) then I'd definitely be up for this. If it's a series of 2-person SnGs, then it'll have to be cheaper than $5-10 a shot. :)

Simms,
It is a bracket-style tournament. Once all the first round matches are complete Stars will randomly pair all the winners for the 2nd round and so forth until we have a winner. All in one tournament.

It's a scheduled event, where everyone sits down at the same time. Once all first round games are done, then the second round starts. So if you bust your opponent on the first hand, you'll have to wait for all of the other matches to finish before you play again.

I have put some more tournament details in the original post. If anyone has any questions let me know. We may want to start trying to nail down a time for this as well since I think we will have enough people. Like I said in the original thread you should give yourself a couple hours for the tourney to complete if you plan on winning. :) Heads up matches can be funny. SOme last only a few hands others can last 20 minutes. The next round does not start until everyone in the current round is done.

Ok I now have access to create private tournaments. Unfortunately it won't let me create a tournament for less than a $10 buy in. So the tournament will be a $10+1. Let me know if that is a problem for anyone.
I'm willing to donate. Heads Up is the weakest part of my game, but this might be fun.

Things are shaping up nicely. We have 15 people who have expressed interest. If we could get at least 16 definites that would be great and obviously more would be even better, but 16 would give us 3 full rounds which wouldn't be too bad at all.
Anyone have any thoughts on when we should hold this? I'd imagine a Firday or Saturday night might work best, but really anything works for me. That includes late and early starts as well.

From my experience, they only do byes in the first round. So if there are at least 8 entered, 9 to 15 get a bye. Once 16 are entered, 17 to 31 get a bye, etc.
And it is random who gets the bye, so it's not a function of when you sign up.

It's hard to say 9-15 won't last any longer than an 8 man tourney since there won't be any extra rounds, just byes. If we got to 16 that would add a round and would add probably 30 minutes to the total tourney. 30 min a round is probably a pretty good estimate.

Prediction: Chris will win the final by hitting a thee outer. :)
Mine wasn't that bad. I was depressed and pushed with bottom pair. I had him outkicked and we would have been just about even if my pair held up. He hit his kicker and that was it.
Now I'm rooting for Chris because if I'm going to go down, I want to go down against the champ.
This definitely had a Cinderella feeling to it. Chris definitely is final worthy, but who would imagine that radii, Simms and Mali would be three of the first four out? Not me.

That was a very gutsy bet Barkeep.
I had Ad Qh and the flop came Jh Jc 5h. We are just about even in chips at this point. Barkeep bet 180 raised 300 and Barkeep called.
The turn was the Qs. Barkeep checked, I bet 600 and Barkeep pushed all-in. Very gutsy bet. Especially since he check raised me. I gave brief consideration to folding, but decided if he had the J he would have pressed his luck tried for one more big bet on the river. I called and he had Ah2h and my hand luckily held up.
Good game Barkeep.

I just sucked out brutally on Primelord. I need to shower now.
While he did suck out on me he also had a 5:1 chip lead when he did it. The key hand:
I am dealt Ah Js. Subby limps. I raise to 7x the BB (560) and Subby calls.
The flop comes Jc, 9d, 9s. Here is mistake #1. I bet 320, and Subby called. With over 1,000 chips in the pot that was a terrible bet. I should have just bet the pot and taken it down. I wanted to keep Subby in. Bad primelord!
The turn is the Qh. I bet 1,040 and Subby calls. This should have set off major warning bells in my head. It's possible Subby has an OESD, but I am thinking with anything but a PAT hand he re-raises me there. Even with just the draw.
The river is the Qs. I make my second mistake and bet 2,080. I don;t think the mistake was betting as much as it wasn't pushing. It would be reasonable for Subby to think I would play AQ the way I played this hand. A9 and k9 are also hands I play this way and of course JJ. My only hope of winning the hand was pushing there. It's not likely Subby has a Q so if he was drawing and missed he isn't going to call a bet from me and the only way I get him to lay down a better hand there is by pushing. If I wasn't willing to push I should have just checked and gone from there.
The board was scary enough to keep Subby from re-raising me, but the damage had been done. He calls and flips over Ks, Td. My hand is no goot!
Nice game Subby.

I had you on something had you on a pocket pair from 7-10 and hoped that the Queen was another scare card for you. If I knew you had the queen I'd have played that differently, that's for sure.

That was fun....thanks to Primelord for putting it together!
Hope we can do this again...
Assuming we continue to have an interest in this I figure we can hold one of these bi-weekly. For the next one if there is sufficent interest I would be fine with playing limit.

Well I played like crap in my 2nd round match and then when I finally started regaining my composure I got sucked out on. But that's what happens when you put yourself in a hole to begin with.
Heh, sounds like my match against you. I was zigging when I shouldve been zagging and just could never find my game at all. Not sure I made a correct decision the entire match.

Could we try and get these on alternate weeks from the regular tourney? I like both of these and think they should complement rather then compete being on the same weekend.
DOLA -- I also would very much like to see a holdem limit tourney thrown here and there.

I have no problem with that. If we have enough people I'll set up the next one for next week and we will go bi-weekly from there. If not we can start again in 3 weeks. Since we won;t be on the same week as the Clossal Squid Tourney we can always shift it to Sunday in that time slot to make scheduling consistent for everyone.

Ack. I prefer the 10 ET start time on Saturdays. The 9 ET on Sundays is my kid's school night bedtime.
But obviously whatever the most people prefer.

I think it's good to be at different times as it'll hopefully allow people like Huck to play in one where they can't play in the other.

Friday or Saturday night is perfect for the kid-havin', no-life dads that participate. :)

Oh where have you gone Maple Leafs? :)
Yeah, sorry about that... I wasn't sure if I'd be there for 10 so I pulled out, figuring I could sign up again if I made it. Missed it by about ten minutes, but did get to watch several matches. I even scouted for future tournaments, making notes like "Do not under any circumstances play Subby".

Not so good for the non-kid-havin', bartending bachelor :) I've still only made it to one of these, and I managed to somehow win it. I'd love to get in on more, but it looks like it'll be a while before the timing is right for me.

Any chance we could do another one of these next week?

I will be out Saturday night, but we could do this Friday or Sunday if anyone was interested.
