The Hank Jr. thread got me thinking that I would post this...
Is anyone else here into Country Line and/or Couples Dancing?
I grew up around it basically. My mother was a competitive couples dancer from about the age of 7 or 8 for me until I was 17 or 18. She was quite good and did very well in competitions and made it to a relatively high level. I travelled the east coast to many competitions at for awhile her and her dance partner had a DJ business so I helped DJ various competitions, dances, etc. in my early teenage years.
Anyway, I of course thought it was the dorkiest, lamest thing possible. Until about 15 when I started to realize the attractive girls that were doing this. There was a place in Springfield, VA (about 20-30 minutes from where I grew up) called Blackie's House of Beef that was also a country place. They did a thing where on Sunday's you could get in to dance no matter what age you were (normally it and everywhere else was 21 and up). I started going here and was hooked quickly. My brother, some close friends, and I started going every week and became relatively well known there because growing up around it I guess I was pretty good and liked to show-off. Anyway, this happens to also be where I met my g/f that I have been dating for almost 8 years now.
So, the interest has continued for me, but with the closest place being about an hour away, I don't go nearly as often as I used to. I go maybe once every month or every couple months, but I still love it. I mainly do line dancing because of what I grew up doing (line dancing is what was popular with the teenagers where I was going). I do know some 2-step and enjoy West Coast Swing a lot, but I have a limited knowledge of moves so I get bored quickly with it. Plus the places down here are a little less "Dance Place" and a little more "Country Bar" so the line dancers tend to take up a HUGE chunk of the dance floor and do not have very good dance etiquette.
So, I am curious, is anyone else into it?
