Is anyone else loving this show? My wife and I are really enjoying it. Great cast, although I'm surprised by how much I'm liking Bill Paxton's work.

I don't know if I love it yet, but I just recently got HBO again, so since this is their new show, I thought I'd give it a shot. It has real promise. It hasn't given me a reason to turn it off yet, so I'll probably be with it for the long haul. But I have seen more than enough of Bill Paxton's ass at this point.

Also watching Six Feet Under for the first time, since HBO2 is showing the seasons in order at 8 each night. It's about midway through season 2 now. What a great show.

I have found it pretty mediocre so far. My wife is enjoying it though.

We have them all stored up on TiVo -- might start watching soon. I give HBO the benefit of the doubt in most cases.

We've been watching. Big Love seems pretty good so far.

Six Feet Under was probably my favorite show ever. The first two seasons were great.

I also have all the episodes on tivo, just haven't been in the mood to watch yet, but I am definitely interested in checking it out

I guess you two have opposite tastes.

I think it's good, I've been watching.

All those hot women, and the only nudity we've received is Bill Paxton's ass.

I don't know. My wife and I have watched the first four episodes, and we're underwhelmed. It's on thin ice (like the opening credits). Too much soap, not enough character.

How's Ginnifer Goodwin in the show? I thought she did really well as Johnny Cash's first wife in Walk The Line.

She's really good, although her character is a little one sided so far. They actually look like they are going to take her too some interesting places...let's just say she'll probably end up winning the award for "most unexpected plotlines"

They must be saving it for a season-ending cliff-hanger.

I'm loving it so far... especially that they've decided to focus not on the "look, there are 3 wives... look at the hijinks!", but rather on Bill's attempt to remove himself from the Juniper Creek influence. Roman is SERIOUSLY creepy!

I watched the first six episodes this week and am on the verge of declaring this one a flop. I am finding it hard to really care about any of the characters. I like the casting but don't see much else to praise. I will keep watching in hopes it will draw me in, but color me unimpressed thus far. Disappointing.

I hate this fucking show....it paints the people around here in a bad light. Honestly, it sucks, it makes everyone in Utah look like they have mutliple wives.

I have one that makes my life a miserable hell every once in a while, why would I want 2 or more....

It's just going to up my fucking questions about this state when I am on the road and training, and my students read my bio......

What, you thought before this show we didn't think there were polygamists in Utah? It's almost a given.

I know it's a given, but the way the show portrays it, is that everyone is like that.....

It's been outlawed since Utah became a state, it had to be, in order for statehood to happen, it took awhile for it to be enforced though. Now, it's prosecution to the fullest extent if it can be proven, and generally, it's when one of the wives leave due to abuse and neglect. And thats when the beans are spilled that he married his cousins 15 year old daughter. They generally go after them there, for the abuse charges and then are able to tack on the polygamy charges.

I know people think/knows it happens here, but I get the "How many wives do you have" question everywhere I go. I generally poke fun of it, to respond, but it gets annoying as hell.

What are you talking about? The main family is constantly on guard from their neighbors, workers at Bill's store, etc, catching on that they are polygamous. You have the Juniper Creek nuts, Bill's family, and then Bill's VP's family and that's it. And now the employee is getting curious and has threatened to turn Bill's VP in.

I guess I dont feel alot of conflict in the show. So he is sleeping with wife #1 more than wife #2 thinks is acceptable. He has a friend placing anonymous phone calls regarding his father-in-laws illegal activities. Just doesnt really excite me that much. I am still watching the show in hopes it gets better though. So I guess something is working.

What, the Roman wanting his pound of flesh storyline isn't enough conflict for you?

I don't know how people can say it makes everyone in Utah look like they have multiple wives. The show focuses on a guy who has multiple wives, who comes from a sub-culture where it is permissible, and focuses on them. However, a large part of the show is showing how they have to keep it quiet, because it is not at all acceptable to the community at large. It shows how people are hostile towards it, and how much it would hurt the main character's business if it ever became public.

To say you hate it because it portrays everyone in Utah as polygamists means either that a) you haven't really watched it, or b) you hate the portrayal of anyone in Utah as polygamists so much, that you've blinded yourself to a whole portion of the show.

the show seems to portray that polygamists are definately in the minority and are forced to hide their lives from everyone. i don't see how you can make the statement that it makes everyone in Utah look like a polygamist? the central theme to the plot in hiding the fact.

Yeah, dealing with Roman would be much different if polygamy was accepted in Utah. There isn't the threat of "I'll out you to the authorities/community" then.

I thought the finale tonight might have been the best episode of the season, and I'm looking forward to the second season now. Anybody else still watching?

Still watching. It was a good episode, as a finally should be IMO.

I just watched the last couple episodes of the season but I am not really sure why. There are no interesting or sympathetic characters. I like a lot of the cast but this show seems like a huge waste of talent.

Carnivale had a ridiculous, laughable central story but was 1000 times more entertaining than this soapy train wreck.

I thought Big Love was alright. It just didnt capture me like Rome, Sopranos, Six Feet Under, etc. did.

Carnivale was a bit tough for me to get into, I didnt watch any of the early episodes but it definitely had potential.

That's what I thought the first time I tried to watch it. We rented the DVDS to give it a second chance, and it ended up being among my favorite shows.

So when the Hawkins/Jesus character stabbed Management and absorbed his memories and powered up his magic knife as it sucked up his blue blood, you didn't find that laughable? :)

Not really. The show had supernatural elements from the start. There are tons of movies and shows that take place in a universe that isn't very realistic. I don't think that makes them laughable.

I just thought it was a silly story. The side stories and minor characters were the best part of the show for me. Shurg.

I've been brewing like a 10 paragraph rant in my head about how awful Big Love is. At some point I will bother to write it all out. Basically, in short, the only character in the whole fucking show with a brain is that somehat retarded Wanda chick(Bill's Brother's wife). She at least has the common sense to fight evil. Fuck, just thinking about how I wasted time watching these episodes pisses me off. I didn't hate it at first, but after catching up on it, i do.
