I'm a fan of this genre, and I've heard good things about both games. Anyone have any input on either of these games.
If by chance you have played both, I'll give your opinion twice as much weight as the other people that respond. That is the best offer I can make.

Glen,
EV Nova is absolute crack. Graphically, its dated to say the least, but the gameplay is just pure fun. The in game storylines are fairly well written and developed, and when you get done with all 6, you can go back and download the legions of new storylines written for the game by its rabid (mac based) fanbase - "plug-in"s, as they call them. I've gotten at least a 100 hours out of that game, and likely more. Great stuff.
The downside is that you manipulate your ship with a keyboard - ie, its real time combat, but you can slow down the speed if your reaction time is iffy. Also, the economy isn't "really" dynamic, so after a while you know the trade routes that you can basically mint money with (Earth to Europa - same star system) and buy a new ship with - but that's a killjoy way of playing. :D
As a whole, if you're remotely a fan of the freelancer type games - go for it. The fun part about EV Nova is you can download a demo and start along one of the many storylines and it will keep going up till a midpoint, where it will ask you for a license code to go further. Its a good test, as it were.

EV:N is an awesome game. I love it. I remember the first one for my old MAC. Override wasnt as good, but Nova is pretty cool.

Hey I read some of the Space Ranger thread. I know some of you played the game. What Say you?

Haven't played Nova, but I really enjoyed Space Rangers -- freeflow and very much a feel of the old Pirates/Freelancer/Elite type of games for me. Unfortunately, I don't know if I can recommend it because it has Starforce and after installing I couldn't burn discs until I finally uninstalled and got the Starforce drivers off my system. My first and likely only experience with Starforce.
I have both and I found Space Rangers 2 the much better game. Both games are good, but SR2 was one of the most enjoyable games I played in the last year.

Now that is the kind of thing I'm looking for.
I'm likely going to download EV Nova, and then order the Space Rangers and a DvD player, because I'm hopelessly behind the times. So I'll have a shot to play both. I will have to wait a while for SR because I've already gone over my budget (The allowance my wife gives me) this month. The deal was, I REALLY needed that bottle of scotch.

We just got Space Rangers 2 in the mail today. Saw the packaging and could've sworn I remembered somebody talking about it here. Looks like I was right.
Hopefully that bodes well for it.

I've always wanted to try Space Rangers 2. I never wanted to deal with Starforce. Happy Days are coming soon:
Space Rangers 2 will be made for digital distribution through Direct2drive.They will have copyright protection that allows the user to re-install the game up to 3 times (per license). Direct2drive also has customer support always availible. They have a GREAT customer support service. Space rangers 2 can be downloaded and burned to a DVD for safe keeping. A CD will not hold this game. This, like i stated above, can be re-installed up to 3 times with that one license file. This file will be added to the computers registry and it can not be copied or installed on another machine. If the back up disk made is used on another machine, the game will install but it will be the trial version. after the trial period, one would have to purchase a full license in which is described above.
Also Direct2drive uses a download manager. So if your having internet troubles 1/2 through the download, you can restart the computer or the internet connection and still have that 50% done. This makes the download procedure eaiser for the non-experienced end-user.
All in all, the digital download will be availible the end of April. So to all of you anti-starforce gammers, please check it out and I promise you won't be unimpressed!
FYI - the starforce thread for questions and concerns will be located here:http://www.cinemawaremarquee.com/forum2/index.php?topic=15.0
this is not a starforce bashing thread, i will delete posts that bash SF and give no warning for this. Thank you.

At the Direct2Drive website they have it listed as coming soon. I've hear the 24th of April will be the release date. I will be one of the first in line to try this out.

WTF?
I usually end up dumping my hard drive every 4 to 6 months.
So I will need to repurchase this every year?
That is a great improvement.

It isn't any different than any sports text sim I own. You have a limited number of installs and if you go over, you have to contact the e-license company to get more or the licenses reset.
For me, it's perfect. Three installs will be plenty. It'll only be installed on my XPS Gen 2. Even if I do reinstall every year, that's three years. What are the odds I'll be playing Space Rangers 2 in three years? Not likely. And if I am? The thing will be on some classic CD without Starforce for $15. I'm good with that.
So for me, this is HUGE news. I realize YMMV.

Elicense allows you to uninstall the license yourself.

I'm probably going to take the Space Rangers 2 plunge this week. I don't like the idea of not being able to have a CD DvD backup, so I probably won't go the Download route.

I think you can backup the direct2drive stuff on DVD, if you have a DVD burner. They tech guy in the forums said that would be possible.

Yeah, but in my case, the licenses only uninstall about 50% of the time. When it has reset, things are easy. When it doesn't, a phone call to the digital d/l provider takes care of the problem a majority of the time.
This will be my first experience with Direct2Drive. I just REFUSE to have a game with Starforce on it. SP2 has had so many great reviews, I really want to try the game out. I don't want the DVD burner in my laptop to stop working though. :)

I was planning on buying the CD-RW\DVD drive. I'm still not burning CDs, let alone DVDs. Let me get into the 90s before I strive for a DVD burner that is SO 2005.
