hey guys,

long time lurker - I love the game, and visit often.

I know most of you are pretty computer-literate, and thought you could possibly help me.

I am helping put together a website for a summer basketball traveling team. I would like to know of some rather inexpensive options for having a domain name - I don't want a free one, but don't want to spend a lot either. I see godaddy.com has domain names for about $8 a year. Now, my question is the web space. Will I have to pay for space on the website, or is that provided?

I have webspace available for my school web page, could I host from that, but have it under the domain name I purchase? How would I go about doing that?

Sorry, I'm kinda new to this, but would love to get more exposure for the team.

Any other nice places to buy domain for a good price?

Thanks guys

With godaddy.com (and most others at similar prices), you're only buying the rights to the domain name, no web space is included.

You can, however, purchase web hosting from godaddy. It's pretty reasonable.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I have webspace at my school - we are forced to create webpages pretty much. So could I make the site on that webspace, and have it forwarded to the domain I register with, therefore not having to pay for the hosting? Sorry for asking so many questions. Anyone know if that is possible?

Actually, I think you'd want to do the opposite of what you said.

Host the content on your school webspace and then have the newly purchased domain redirected to that space. Think of domain forwarding as being kind of like call forwarding -- I "phone" you by dialing www.newname.com but the "call" gets "answered" at www.yourschoolsite.com

At least, that seems right if I'm not suffering from a brain cramp that causes me to think about this backwards or something,
