Yup. Me too.

I'm wondering if they'll release non-Starforce patches to some of their older games. I bought Silent Hunter III and Space Rangers 2 but uninstalled them (and Starforce as well), when read the article showing how Starforce could break your DVD drive. I'd love to go back and play the games, especially since I bought them already.

Yep, I reallllllly wanted Silent Hunter, but, well, Starforce.

I'd buy it immediately if they issued a Starforce-less version.

Sweet, I had no idea this game was coming out. I haven't bought a comp game in a year or two, but will definitely pick this up.

It was delayed to May at the request of Beta Testers who found some bugs that they thought should be fixed before release. That move combined with this move are big factors why I'm sure I'll pick this up on release.

yeah that was pretty cool how the delayed the game based on the feedback from the beta team. pretty much unheard of now-a-days

Augh. You mean to review that game we have to risk breaking a writer's DVD drive?

Looks like Spellforce 2 has dropped Starforce as well

It looks like from story context they're dropping Starforce entirely, not just from Heroes 5.

Ok, I'm ignorant here, someone explain to me what is wrong with starforce? What is the software doing that is causing so much trouble? I'l avoid it like the plague, but I want to know why I am doing so =)

Briefly put, it's quite simply the most invasive and potentially destrictive form of copy protection you can imagine.

On top of that, when GalCiv2 decided to ship WITHOUT StarForce, the assmonkeys at StarForce posted a pirate copy of the game online, just to show them how big a mistake they were making by NOT using StarForce.

Starforce can potentially damage DVD drives because of how it accesses CD-Roms. Many people lose the ability to burn anything at all. Their CD-R's become useless until the software has been uninstalled.

As if it weren't intrusive enough, they crossed the line further a few weeks ago. When Galactic Civ 2 came out with no copy protection, a mod on the Starforce bulliten board posted links of where people could d/l Gal Civ 2 illegaly.

After a firestorm of protests, they took the link down.

In short, they don't punish people who pirate games. They punish the customers who legally buy them.

Won't run on my laptop, unfortunately. I'm going to have to wait till I get home for the summer to try it out.

Hmmm, i wonder if any of the games my daughter/wife have installed on my machine possibly used Starforce. Might explain some of the issues I've had. Any quick way to know if you have it on your machine?

I played the Demo last night and I lost in a week because I didn't check my objectivers to see that I had two objectives that had to be done in a week, so I was lollygagging around. I'll try again tonight.

If you go to the http://www.glop.org/starforce/ site, it'll tell you how to detect and remove StarForce.
