View Full Version : FM PSP and FM Xbox360 available now

Somewhat belated I know but I thought I'd mention that both Xbox 360 and PSP versions of Football Manager 2006 are now available.
Both are 'region free' and so can be played on a machine anywhere in the world (presuming its a PSP or 360 ;) ).
Hope this helps,
Marc
PS> Believe it or not we've already had someone unlock a 'feature' on the PSP which only appears if you play 10+ seasons into the game - its one a few chaps here have requested in the past, you're offered the chance to join the board of directors at your club and thus become immune to sacking.
PPS> For those of you 'really' bad at FM, you can 'trade' game config files to unlock features which you find it too hard to achieve yourself.

Very cool thing. Curiosity: will this be added in future PC releases?
Anyway, congrats on the release Marc.

Unlikely to add 'unlockables' into the PC version - simply because its a totally different 'beast' to the handheld game and such things are more 'arcadey' which is acceptable on the PSP version but which a lot of people might find inappropriate for the PC version which is as much a 'simulation' as it is a game ...
(but it does help testing to include that sort of mode so there might be one available via. config file entries if people poke around)

SegRat and I both pre-ordered FM Handheld from Gameplay and both of us got an email on Wednedsday that it would show up in 1-4 weeks!!! :D :D :D
This is perfect timing for me, as my latest hand...issue...has made playing most of my video games near impossible.

I really hope it is a lot closer to 1 week than 4 weeks.

Ditto. :) But, in a slightly furstrating turn of events, it somehow is getting sent to my folks' house, so even when it comes in, I'm going to have to wait until I can run up there to get it.
Ah, oh well!

Its technically possible - unfortunately the market for such a game isn't particularly vast compared to the costs involved (ie. testing on the myriad of PocketPC devices available) thus as such I don't envisage such a game being avialable for quite a while I'm afraid ....
(much as I'd personally enjoy making such a product ;) )

Well what about instead of an unlockable - you may be asked to join the board as a feature of the game? Obviously this would be very rare...
Does the PSP version come in different language versions or is there just one version and you can change the language in game?

Just one version and you can change languages in game (as with our PC titles).

Cool. Thanks Marc. I'm going to be in Paris soon and I was going to try to find the game while I'm there.

Hey Mark that is great news. Definitely going to get this for the PSP. I have heard some concerns about FM running slow on the PSP. Would I gain anything by running at 333 MHz?

Trust me its far from 'slow' on the PSP - especially compared to the PC game itself ...

It is not slow that's for sure, it is different than on other platforms but still runs quick.

Which one were you thinking of specifically? (PocketPC would be technically feasible, but unfortunately simply isn't a practical commercial viability really (the testing costs alone would be considerable compared to the expected revenue - bearing in mind there is no retail outlet for such games in Europe)).

It was designed to be more 'pick up and play' than on the PC - its a game where you can blast through a season much more quickly than on FM PC ..
To me this seemed ideal for a handheld as you might get the PSP out on a train when you only have 10-15 minutes to play and thus a FM PC style game wouldn't really suit the dip in and play mentality which people have with a handheld.
That being said its still as realistic as possible and from the feedback we've recieved so far still seems to be as addictive as ever (put it this way 2 days after the game came out several people had unlocked items which required you to have played a minimum of 10 seasons in the game ;) ).

Only had it one day, but I'm certainly enjoying it to this point.

Yeah, FM is right. I was looking at the DS, which has better LTD sales in Europe, tho it's hard to come by exact numbers as both Nintendo and Sony are being kindof protective of their hardware numbers.

The DS's specification is somewhat lower than the PSP's which means developing FM for it is something which is unlikely I'm afraid ... not saying we'll never do a game upon that platform (as I'd love to play with the hardware personally* :D), but its not something which is going to happen in the immediate future.
*What can I say I'm a geek, speaking as someone who's seriously looking into getting a GP2X simply because its a cool console and has an open architecture ...
