I thought a chess tournament for those of us that enjoy the game would be a good idea. I think the ideal venue for this is

It's Your Turn (http://www.itsyourturn.com)

This is ideal because you can make your moves whenever you want. There is a time limit per move, we can make it 3 days or something like that (this is SLOW chess).

We would have to use the honor system as far as cheating goes. Id like to use this thread as a way to guage interest in such an event Post below if you would participate.

I'm extremely rusty, but I'd be willing to play.

I thought about hosting my own tournament, I would much rather set aside one night a week, and play a game with 15 minute time controls

I'm in. I think a one-day time-limit would suffice. (IMO, for most people on this board, the difference between one day and three days in terms of whether they'll be online is negligable). Whenever I've played in the past, I've done quick games. A slower game might help me quite a bit.

I'd be in if it was a quick game. I am not sure it would keep my interest over several days.

Sounds fun! Count me in!

Sure, count me in! I'd be interested in either format. One problem I see with the single-night idea is that it will be difficult to get everyone free on the same night. Allowing up to a day to respond would at least give a greater chance of having everyone be able to participate.

A tournament is a good idea--let's give it a try! I'm not very skilled at the game yet, but I'm looking forward to doing this.

I don't think I have the time to play right now but where are you going to be posting the thread? I'd love to read the writeups of the games.

I'd be up for this, too. I don't know if I can set aside time to play a game all at once, so a slow pace would work perfect for me -- as long as people don't mind if my pace is REALLY slow, since I'm not online all that often.
