Is their any way to make computer controlled opponents more intelligent with their drafting, trading, holding on to key free agents, playing their best players etc?

Nope, you can't change the AI at all.

There are difficulty levels, plus the AI seems to be strong enough to have teams able to dominate the league for about 5 years, but I think most FOF players joined multiplayer leagues to hae a bigger challenge.

I've seen particular franchises that will hold their own for 4-5 years. In one career I traded division titles with the Patriots(I was the jets) for about a decade. And they were always good too. In whole, yeah, the engine needs a bit of work, and I hope the next version will have the computer teams entering FA with around 40 players instead of around 20. Sometimes it gets stupid when you have 2 stud LDE's and the computer insists of sitting one for a weak RDE, for example.

Is their any way you can user control every team, for all or parts of each season?

And are their any patches that have improved the AI at all since the games release?

Not really, but I suppose you might be able to set up a multiplayer league and log in and out for each team to make transactions if you really wanted to go that far.

Yes, there have been many over the last 2.5 years. The current version is 5.1d and includes all previous patches.

Join a multiplayer league if you want human intelligence and a real challenge.

How do you go about doing that? (not much of an on-line gamer)

Check this forum: http://www.operationsports.com/fofc/forumdisplay.php?f=21

You might find some openings posted there. Otherwise, check the multiplayer league directory to find leagues that interest you. Then go to the league's forum and ask to be put on the waiting list. There is turnover and most leagues have openings at the end of the season. I believe there's an opening coming up in the eNFL.

Pretend Bill Bidwell owns every other team.
