A. Screw Aaron Hernandez
B. Screw the University of Florida (You too Iowa, your freaking coach is an alum)

I used to feel a tad guilty when Calhoun would steal a guy like Wiggins from St. Johns. Never again. I don't care if he takes a recruit from every goddamn school in the country.

I knew watching the Spring game that Hernandez was gone (the offense could not have looked more awful). It still stings this morning.

Nice touch lying to his brother about the reason for his trip to Florida. Vacation my ass.

Brother wanted him at UConn, mother wanted him at UConn, late father wanted him at UConn.

Made both decisions really quickly (committed to UConn prior to last season, then now to Florida immediately after their spring game Saturday), almost makes you think that a Notre Dame or USC could sway him there way next.

Interesting thing is that Florida already had a top 100 TE recruit (may or may not play DE) and the TE hasn't really been a big part of Urban Meyer's offense in the past.

But whatever, best of luck to him.

I wish I could stay so calm.

I don't follow recruiting much, but I've had the opportunity to referee two of Hernandez's high school games and he was just unbelieveable to watch. Now I hope I don't get assigned to any... every 80 yard TD and sack will just leave a bad taste in my mouth.

I just hope that Kanuch doesn't go the way of Larry Taylor and Terry Caulley because the video of him is pretty impressive and the offense needs someone who can make a play.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of schools out there that are a little bit "lazy" in their player evaluations and scouting, and they like to feast on committed players. Florida is a team that is known to go after other teams commits once they start missing out on their top targets.

A player de-committing and going elsewhere is not too uncommon, though. I'd say, on average most non-top echelon/non-elite teams lose 1-3 commits a year to the bigger programs. I know WVU lost one to Florida and one to Alabama last season (although the Alabama one ended up switching to Florida State afterwards). We also took one from Pitt and one from South Florida.

Realistically, it is almost more stressful when a kid commits early, because you just have more time to lose him. I have been following recruiting very closely the past two seasons (I have a subscription to scout.com) and have learned not to get too excited until players sign their letters of intent on Feb 2, and even then, they do not always qualify.

99 times out of a hundred I don't blink when this happens. It's just that Hernandez is the top prospect to come out of the state in a long time. He might not have the name value that Orlovsky had, but he's probably a better player at this point in his career.

It was a frustrating Spring Game, and this is just annoying after he said multiple times that he was still 95% sure he will honor the committment. We all knew that was bullshit, but I still hope that Florida never wins another game.

I agree with alot of what you are saying. I think it probably hurts more since his brother has a good chance of being the starting QB in 07 when he would be a freshman.

I imagine that DJ will be the starter for 2006. Maybe Cundiff could push him in 2007, but Dennis Brown doesn't look to me like a starter in the Big East. Everything I heard on DJ was positive for the entire spring, but the Spring Game was an unmitigated disaster for him.

What happened to Bones?

What happened to Bones?

Wasn't good in the spring game either. More or less the spring game went bad for anyone under center for UConn predominantly because the Defense was way ahead of the offense (the D-ends combined for 7 sacks).

In addition to the spring game I had the opportunity to attend a couple of practices, Hernandez was clearly the best of the QBs. Cundiff actually was splitting snaps with Bonislawski during some of those practices with the 2's and Brown will redshirt next season (he started against Rutgers last year). In actuality I'd expect that it will shake down Hernandez, Bonislawski, Cundiff on the depth chart.

Aaron looked great when we played him last year (heck he accounted for every point Central scored against us), it sucks that he's not going to go to UConn, but ultimately he's a 17 year old, who for better or worse made a decision. Everyone in his family, from his father & mother, to his brother wanted him at UConn (heck he didn't even tell his brother the real reason he was going to Florida (he told him it was just a vacation)), perhaps he decided he wanted he wanted to be his own man, instead of DJ's little brother. Ultimately there isn't anything I can do about it, so while I think it sucks, there is nothing you can do but wish him well. I may not think it was the right decision, but it wasn't my choice to make.

Words cannot describe how bad he looked in the Spring Game. Actually, Hernandez passed him on the depth chart last season with his play against Louisville. I never expect to see Bonislawski again unless Hernandez gets hurt in 2006 and Cundiff isn't ready to step in.

Of course with the offensive line they have put together there is a chance that Hernandez, Bonislawski, Cundiff, and Brown could all play due to injury.

I would not want to be at the dinner table the next time the brother's are in the house together. I can't imagine how he explained what he did to his bro. My brother would have killed me.

New Britain. (I might be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure he accounted for all three TDs against NBHS last year... I'm incorrect in that he didn't account for the PATs and I believe the safety was a bad snap on a punt forced after a sack by Hernandez on third down)

I went to Southington, it was nice to turn the tables on the Golden Hurricanes this year.

My senior year we got beat on Thanksgiving by NB... and the great Tebucky Jones did account for all the points. 38 of them if I remember correctly.
