I have a toothache that came on suddenly tonight. Now I can't sleep and the whole right side of my face is in pain. As I write I have my head tilted towards my right shoulder and my mouth filled with Listerine. It's not helping for any length of time. I'm thinking of pulling a Castaway. Ugggh, of course this happens when I can’t get to a dentist.

Try saltwater maybe? Hopefully you don't need to have a root canal. That anbesol works okay temporarily as well.

Why can't you go to a dentist?

It was the middle of the night. I can go today if I'm able to get the day off.
Anyway, the listerine ended up working out okay. After the second cycle my mouth felt fine. I went to bed without a problem, and now I'm up getting ready for work.

I had the exact same thing about 3 weeks ago. Went to the dentist and after a week of antibiotics got the tooth pulled.
Nothing I hate worse than a toothache.

I had an abscessed tooth over Easter weekend. Worst. Thing. Ever.
Root canal is scheduled for tomorrow. Yippee.

I woke up one morning when I was 19 and had a huge lump on the left side of my face. I was freaking out because it wasn't there the night before and nothing like this had ever happened to me or anyone I know. I went into work to ask for the day off and my idiot boss said, "It looks like cancer." I went to the hospital and they suggested I see the dentist. It turned out I had an abscessed tooth and had to have a root canal.
The root canal itself wasn't so bad. The length of the procedure was the only hard part. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to get another one done.
I don't understand teeth apparently. I brush 2-3 times a day, floss every other day and always use Listerine at night, yet I always get cavities. My best friend brushes once a day, chews, doesn’t own floss or mouth wash and has never had a cavity.

The way I understood it was that abscesses can be pretty random. I haven't had many problems with my teeth either, but I am in my forties now and apparently now is the time for some of my early fillings to wear out and cause problems. I had also been having some sinus problems and the endodontist said that can weaken your immune system enough for an abscess to form.
