I agree, I like TEW a lot more than Wrestling Spirit. I'd also much rather enjoy a quicker playing game than TEW, I have a really hard time deciding whether Jeff Jarrett should get 5 minutes or 4 in his interview.

I don't understand this game. He should just convert it to MMA, then I would be interested.

I think the TEW engine is solid, but I've given up on that game. It feel like it takes 4-5 clicks to do something that should take 1 click. Very tedious.

TEW is probably the most tedious 'game' I've ever played, it is just not fun..

I agree.

Ryland's EWR 4.0 (absolutely FREEWARE), on the other hand is fun.

Bring back the old days of freeware wrestling sim!

Sums it up pretty well for me I think.
I think the game is good, I think the engine is pretty solid with regard to what it attempts to do, but it's such a damned clickfest just to run a card.

When I find myself being relieved that a show is over and dreading the next one, that ain't conducive to play time.

It seems like it would be so easy to patch, but there hasn't been in update in forever. Universal Linking alone would make a huge difference - I can't belive TEW doesn't even have that. Or event booking with "dragging" capability from rosters menus, that have the key stats right there. It seems so simple, it's kind of a shame that great engine is going to waste.

It is pretty a popular game in the wrestling world.

I agree I would definately like to see a MMA version of Wrestling Spirit. I suggested this to Adam.

Is this the wrestling game that pretends that the outcomes of the match are competitive, and don't have a predetermined result? I never understood why that would even be a type of game.

Honestly I feel that all the GDS/.400 Studios interfaces are too inconvenient, they're sluggish and generally more work to navigate through then I feel necessary. That's why out of the 3 games I've purchased from them, I play none of them and I have no interest in buying anymore.

If I am playing a wrestling sim, I don't want to have to goto a seperate screen to pick my wrestlers, then pick my referee in a seperate screen then pick my road agent in a seperate screen... pick the time, name the match, goto a seperate screen and pick the ending... After two matches I don't want to play.

Yes, and this version is going to go as far as allow you to create a world sanctioning body ala boxing?

I don't get it. Wrestling fans watch MMA, MMA would make for a better option, since it is both real, fast, action packed, and has sanctioning bodies. Also, just because you don't hear about them, I would say there is atleast close to as many legitimate(not backyard street fighting crap) MMA orgs in the world as wrestling.

And wouldn't it be interesting to play a game that if done right, you could lose in one punch if you make a stupid decision against a world class fighter?

But from what I hear there is a free game kind of like this that uses MMA on the way in the not too distant future so long as it doesn't become vaporware somewhere in the process.

Actually, that's the more common format for wrestling games, both on the p.c. and on the tabletop. TNM comes to mind, where non-booked finishes were probably more common than booked finishes when it came down to actually playing the game.

Much like pro wrestling, it's all in the suspension of disbelief.

Sidebar: even more interesting to me is how Roller Rumble managed to game roller derby as a pretty legitimate sport and yet managed to do a great job in capturing the feeling & flavor of the scripted events that aired on television. I'm not sure I've played any game, computer or dice-and-chart, that did a better job of feeling like what it was trying to simulate.

agreed. We need to contact the guy who ran plaay.com, ask him for the right to create a computer version of it, "Total Roller Rumble 2006" and sign up to be published by GDS, Jon :D

Or we could promise to create a really whiz-bang version and call up Matrix.
I can see it now: "Total Maximum Roller Rumble 2016"

There's quite a number of wrestling fans who don't watch MMA -- they're too short, too tedious and quite frankly, a little boring. I watch wrestling because it's like a male soap opera, and because I enjoy the wrestling. MMA is ok, but I do not watch it on a regular basis.

Not for me. It's more interesting to watch a long match -- although I do like the idea of being able to set the CPU to determine results. It's not that I hate MMA -- but give me wrestling any day of the week.

I wasn't talking real life, I'm talking this game. Have you ever played it? The storylines consist of talking to people in the back and fighting someone every show for like 7 to see who wins the most. This game is as little "wrestling" as any game I've ever seen. That is why there is so little interest in it on this board.

If you were able to be involved in multi-step story lines and have choices along the way and the game was built less around winning and more about entertainment(which honestly, there is somewhat in the game, but if you don't win you get fired) then it would be a great game. As is, it isn't setup to be a wrestling game.

Oh, and I think you have seriously confused this game with TEW. TEW it is not.

I have been playing a bit of TEW 2005 again lately as I got back into one of my old games trying to lead CZCW back to the top... Because of the tediousness of the setup of each card I have been booking shows only 1 hour long weekly and one big show per month. It gets Soooo repetitive and boring though. The worst is when you start with a small company and help them grow it only get more tedious by needing to have more shows to make more money and longer shows just to get all of your wrestlers some action without them getting pissed...

Under the surface TEW has a good engine but the booking continues to take way too much effort and time... I am again burned out of TEW after about a week of playing.

As far as WreSpi goes... I enjoyed the first one for a month or so but have never gone back to it. If it did not stay kayfabe and give me at least the occasional true to life prebooked match I would appreciate that. Seems the second iteration will be getting further from reality and have no promotions and only divisions (like soccer in europe). That makes me less likely to spend time with that game.

I agree with the comment about GDS's games all having interface problems which make playing a chore and not very fun... When looking at their games and their engines they all seem to produce pretty well (most of the time) but require so much time to accomplish simple tasks. I am talking mostly about WreSpi, TEW, and BBCF. TPB and TCB were more pleasant in my opinion but those sports require less tedious things from the beginning.

I misunderstood what you were saying -- I thought you were talking wrestling in general. I agree totally about the game.

My idea for a good wrestling game is to setup the game much like a wrestling league -- each person creates a character, and controls all aspects of that character, from starting feuds and jumping from fed to fed, but the actual wrestling engine be much, MUCH better than Wrestling Spirit. I like what he's trying to do, but it isn't working. :-(

Hell, you could even create a multi-tiered multiplayer game. Have a core group of people who control the federations, and much like TEW, work with tv ratings, signing talent, ect, even book (but not determine winners/losers). Have another group of people who control the CHARACTERS -- they would have a different kind of fun -- setting up feuds, dealing with signing up with different federations, but have the wrestling engine more robust, and give the players control over the type of moves they use. Treat the actual game matches as if they were real, but everything else like real life wrestling.

That would be an exceptional wrestling game for both types of people -- the micromanagers and the Smackdown vs Raw fans.
