Haven't seen this mentioned, but do you agree with GQ's list?
1. Terrell Owens
2. Barry Bonds
3. Kurt Busch
4. Curt Schilling
5. Kobe Bryant
6. Michael Iaconelli
7. Bonzi Wells
8. Phil Mickelson
9. A.J. Pierzynski
10. Lleyton Hewitt
5 who just missed the top 10: Jeff Kent, Randy Johnson, Rasheed Wallace, A-Rod, Danny Fortson.

Not sure if all these guys are truly hated, but it must say something about me when some of my favorite players are mentioned here (Bonds, Schilling, Bryant, Kent).
Why Bonds and no Sheffield or Giambi? The top 10 needs more Yankees.

I think Jeff Gordon is hated more by the NASCAR crowd than Kurt Busch.

Where is spreewell. Hmm, though since he doesn't have a job, he's not really an athlete anymore. And I'm suprised there aren't any soccer guys on here, though I guess it must be a US list.

I don't even know how #6 is...
Some of the others I dont' think are well known enough to the "regular guy" to make this list... AJ for instance...

Sorry, I should have mentioned this from the article;
Who are the most roundly despised men in pro sports? We asked their peers—and they came out swinging

Bonzi's getting a lot of love in Sacramento these days. And I think they must have Schilling and Johnson backwards... the Unit is a total ass.

Bonzi Wells? BONZI WELLS? Do that many people really hate him? How can Bonzi Wells rate "more hated" than A.J. Pierzynski? Pierzynski has had many of his own teammates openly disliking him.
And Curt Schilling? I mean, I know he's not everybody's favorite player, but is he more hated than Kobe Bryant? I know lots of people -- even those who aren't sports fans -- who hate Kobe Bryant. I don't know anybody who hates Curt Schilling, unless they're just really mad about Schilling getting Doug Glanville's EverQuest character murdered.
And who's this Michael Iaconelli clown? I really question that somebody is in the top 10 "most hated athletes" if I have to look his name up just to know who he is. Are they talking about a fisherman? Are they seriously talking about a fisherman here?
Hell, if they want to reach into "niche" sports, they ought to put Pete Weber on there. In the bowling world, he's really the "love him or hate him" guy.
The top two on the list are obvious, Owens and Bonds. After that, shit, they could have just put any names on there and it'd make as much sense. Why not Wally Sczerbiak? Or David Eckstein? Or Lorenzo Neal? Just pick names out of thin air.
In short, uh, I kinda don't agree with the list.

I see the gotcha, the poll is "by their peers". So that is why some no names and fan favorites made the list. These are the folks the other athletes hate.

So even if it's "by their peers", how do they measure this? So bass fishermen hate Michael Iaconelli more than basketball players hate Rasheed Wallace?
Man, who knew that bass fishermen got so emotional?

Yeah, I think so too... Compared to Christian Vieri, Antonio Cassano, Gennaro Gattuso and another couple hundreds soccer players that I could mention, Bonds & Owens are, you know, pretty funny guys...

Claude Lemieux?

Jeez.
I was trying to think of hockey players, and Lemieux was the first one who came to mind. Since he has finally retired, I guess that's reason enough for him not to be on the list. Marchment and Kasparaitis, though, certainly. I'll bet they're easily more hated than -- and I'm not going to let this go -- a bass fisherman.
These are athletes? What athletic ability is required to fish?

Well, since the list also includes an auto racer and a golfer, I believe you have just opened up a can of worms.
Get it? Can of worms?

A.J. Pierzynski is hated for many reasons, but one of the most ridiculous ones was what he did to San Francisco Giants trainer Stan Conte. When he was with the Giants in 2004, he took a ground ball in the family jewels. When Conte came over to ask how he was feeling, AJ got up and kneed him in the groin, saying "That's how I feel!"
And that's not a made up story.

Curt's masterful with the media. Don't think he has ever been real popular with his teammtes, for whatever reason.

I saw him this morning on Sportscenter as I was getting ready for work and they asked him. He said that others would say that he has a tendancy to talk too much.

They had Jack Morris on the radio in Toronto when Kirby Puckett died, and he said something along the lines of "The media thought Kirby was a great guy, and with him they were actually right, unlike certain 'great guys' you all loved up here". The host asked him "You mean Joe Carter, don't you?" and he said "Pretty much".

Yeah, but no boxers hate him anymore since he gives up after 1 round and when you beat him, you get a title shot. Boxers love him now.

Well, he nailed (or is nailing, I haven't kept up) Elisabetta Canalis, so that is more than enough reason for me to hate him...

I can totally see him going on and on about the killer raid on Onyxia he was in on last night, right after finishing up a sweet game of Advanced Squad Leader. See, he was reenacting the battle for Stalingrad, and just to see what would happen, he added three more German divisions coming up from the South...

I think Schilling should be obvious. Sure, he talks to the media and gives good stuff to fans. But, don't you think, that if you had to work with him, he's that sanctimonious prick who thinks he's god's gift to pitching and that guy who looks down his nose at everyone in the clubhouse?
Maybe Michael Iaconelli is a big fatty, so he's unpopular with the piers. Piers?! Peers!? Fishing?! Get it?!
I laughed... kindof ;)

Now back to the World Of Norrath. Schilling's EverQuest habit came to light after a 2001 game when his former Philadelphia Phillies teammate Doug Glanville hit two homers off of Schilling, who had just joined the Arizona Diamondbacks. Glanville explained to a writer for ESPN.com that the homers were payback for Schilling's role in the death of Bing- bong, Glanville's beloved, dwarven paladin. Glanville's tale: "One day, Schill was playing his character, Cylc, and he asked me to team up with him in Faydwer, in the zone of the Butcherblock Mountains, to kill Aviaks, which are basically walking birds." The pair encountered danger, according to Glanville, and Schilling ran away: "I vowed revenge on the soul of Bingbong, for the negligent actions of Cylc." Hence the two homers.
Later, Allakhazam offered Schilling the chance to tell his side of the story. "C'mon dude, you ever hear of a cleric pulling in a group with a paladin?" Schilling answered. "Anyone with a lick of sense in EQ could see right through [Glanville's] babbling and knows that he was the train conductor in that entire episode. Doug's the goods though. Fun as hell to group with. His ranger is around 30 now. Nahir is his name. Give him a tell if you want a fun guy to group with. He experiments with other characters a lot more than I do though."

If baseball would go back to a four-man rotation, hall of fame pitchers wouldn't have time for this sort of geekery.

Shilling is a huge ASL fan and plays in many of the tourneys. I think the 4 man rotation would put a crimp in his idle time. Let the man mingle with the masses.

First Barry gets thrown at and now AJ gets sucker punched. Oh yeah I can't forget Kobe getting clothlined. Three down seven more to go.
