I was just watching the news when the anchor said "the governor signed a bill that will allow small viniards to ship their wine via the internet."

Anybody got a good corkscrew program I can download? I've got a shipment in my inbox. :D

You know, grammatical errors aside, this is actually good news for Arizona, if it means what I think it means.

I was at a local vineyard a few months ago, and I wanted to take some wine with me on a trip to Arizona to share with some friends. I was thinking of just having the vineyard ship it for me, and they said they can't ship to Arizona because of a state law there forbidding it.

I guess it's a protectionist measure established for the benefit of Arizona wineries (which, if you think about it, is really kind of stupid). So, basically, wine afficionados in Arizona have to suffer because of it.

It only affects small arizona viniards basically so it still seems protectionist. I don't know though, I'm a beer man. :D

Wineries always seem to have some oddball rules attached to them for whatever reason. One of my co-workers is also part-owner of his own winery and he's bemoaning the fact that there's been a recent bill that requires local wineries to have to go through distributors, which effectively prevents them from selling directly to anyone. Kinda kills the purpose of having a storefront in the town they've got the winery set up in. Ostensibly, this is some sort of protectionism for somebody up here, but clearly it's not for my co-worker's winery business.
