Are you guys on quarters? This is a pretty lame rule. Especially when Holmes isn't even in school this quarter.
Steelers' top pick won't get much spring practice
Monday, May 01, 2006
By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Ohio State receiver Santonio Holmes made his first visit to Pittsburgh today after the Steelers made him their first-round draft pick, and he will make only one more before training camp begins at the end of July.
Holmes is not permitted to work out this spring with the Steelers except for three days, May 13-15, during their mandatory minicamp. He will be forced to miss the rest of their 14 voluntary coaching sessions because of an agreement between the NFL and NCAA that limits a rookie's participation in the spring until his college class graduates.
Ohio State's graduation does not take place until mid-June, a week after the Steelers' spring workouts end June 8. The agreement does not normally affect many rookies because college graduations often take place well before June.
The lack of participation with his new teammates could impede Holmes' assimilation into the Steelers' offense as a rookie. Although the 14 workout sessions are voluntary, virtually every player participates. The sessions include practices without pads along with meetings and video sessions. The spring workouts help give rookies a base of knowledge they carry into training camp and give them a head start. Tight end Heath Miller and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger went through all the coaching sessions. Both became starters as rookies.

It's just that it takes Ohio State students a little longer to lern that stuff than it does at other schools.

Reason i ask is that Big Ben was apparently from Finley, and an old classmate of mine was as well. :D

There was something similar with Manning when the Colts drafted him, but I can't remember exactly what it was. I think maybe he had officially graduated early before the draft, but still wasn't allowed to practice with the Colts until after the summer graduation.

IIRC Manning was doing graduate work his entire senior season. He could have turned pro as a junior, having been a college graduate. He just didnt want to play for the Jets apparently.

Its Findlay, there is no Finley. Yes, Findlay is where Big Ben is from...66.6% love him, 33.3% hate him. Granted a lot of people that hate him, hate him because they are jealous. I'm one of the 33.3% but I don't care for him for his attitude when you see him out in public. Granted he is a NFL player but he seems to flaunt it big time when you see him out. One instance he pulled a bar stool from the bar and sat in the middle of the walkway at the bar so that everyone had to walk around him to get from one side of the bar to the other.
The thing that bothers me most is the promise he made to donate an unspecified amount of money to the FPD and FFD once he was drafted, it hasn't happened. That and the whole thing at Bob Evan's, where he and his family went to eat for breakfast, the store manager asked him for an autograph. Big Ben said he would give him an autograph if the whole meal was free, the manager said ok, Big Ben and family proceeded to leave a $1.50 tip. That same weekend he charged $20 a piece for autographs, mostly people he knew, old high school friends, etc.

Dola - Josh Huston (K, tOSU) is also from Findlay. He seems to be liked a little more, but from what I have heard he isn't liked real well in Columbus for stuff he said about being better then Nugent.

Yes we are on quarters, which is kind of good because we start school about a month later than everyone else...but as in this case it sucks because we are IN school that same amount longer than everyone.
