LOS ANGELES -- Police said they are attempting to determine whether the Los Angeles Lakers' Kwame Brown was involved in a reported sexual assault at an area hotel.
The alleged assault occurred early Monday morning after the team's playoff victory Sunday night against the Phoenix Suns, police said.
The LAPD Robbery-Homicide Division is handling the investigation.
Lakers spokesman John Black could not be immediately reached for comment. The team is scheduled to take on the Suns in Phoenix at 7:30 p.m. in game five of the best-of-seven, first-round playoff series. The Lakers lead the series 3-1.
Brown did not practice Tuesday with the team, according to NBC4. The station reported that Brown was expected to play Tuesday night.
Brown, 24, was the first high school player ever chosen with the first overall pick of the NBA draft. The 6-foot-11, 211-pound Brown played his first four NBA seasons with the Washington Wizards. This is his first season with the Lakers.
In high school, Brown led Georgia's Glynn Academy to an 81-21 record from 1997-2000. He left as the school's all-time leader in rebounds and blocked shots. He ranked second all-time in scoring.
Brown was the 2001 High School Player of the Year in Georgia.
Police asked anyone with information in the case to contact detectives at (877) LAWFULL.
