Some interesting names on here.
Top 5 Rule 5 draft choices
By Dave Sheinin - SportingNews
1. Roberto Clemente. That's right -- he was a Rule 5 selection of the Pirates, who plundered him from the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1954. He is the only Rule 5er in the Hall of Fame.
2. George Bell. The 1987 A.L. MVP was a 1980 draftee of the Blue Jays after the Phillies failed to protect him. Bell retired after the 1993 season with 265 career homers and three All-Star Game appearances.
3. Johan Santana. There are two losers in this tale. The 2004 A.L. Cy Young winner began his pro career in the Astros' chain but was lost in the 1999 draft to the Marlins -- who immediately traded him to the Twins.
4. Jay Gibbons. He's a gift from the Syd Thrift era that keeps on giving to Orioles fans. The O's grabbed Gibbons away from the Blue Jays in 2000, and he has had three 20-homer seasons in Baltimore.
5. Willy Taveras. Taveras came out of the same 2003 draft as Shelton and was the runner-up for N.L. Rookie of the Year in 2005. The Astros took him from the Indians.
