This is going to be my last post in Phoenix Arizona. I am finally going to shut down the desktop and move our belongings to Austin. I will probably be silly enough to stop by an internet kiosk to check out the board along the way, but if not, I won't have internet access until May 16th.

Now for the 15 hour drive....

Then why do you live in TN?

Exactly.

Because I thought I'd give other pitiful states a chance for a while. But I will be home soon.

If that's the rationale for leaving AZ, though, why'd they pick Texas?

well, you're on the road by now and probably already to the 4th or 5th bathroom stop but I hope it's all going well :)

Darn I don't miss the times of having to drive 8+ hours with the kiddo in the backseat...

Yay! Arrived in Austin on Saturday and just got internet access today. Clipped a bird and almost hit two deer arriving here and missed driving through a thunderstorm. Other than that, everything went smooth. Now it is time for the job hunting to begin.

Welcome. Contrary to what that weirdo said, it's a great state. In fact, it's The Great State of Texas. That's the official name, I think. ;)

Seriously, it has a little of everything. If you want a little bit of Deliverance, head to East Texas. You want some snobbery, head to the elitists in Dallas. A little hippy lovin', you're good to go in Austin. You like cows, head to Fort Worth. Wide open spaces, head west. Bad football teams, visit JeeberD.

Really a lot of options.

LOL!

This is a funny summary and I wonder how much truth is in it. For some reason, I felt most comfortable with Austin because it seems to be a blend of high tech with a country setting.

Now what is really strange is that the person who leased us our apartment in Phoenix is residing in the same apartment complex as we are and they just moved in as well.

Ditto, thanks for the good thoughts.

I'm a Southern California girl to the heart and coming here will definitely be a culture shock. So far, I've seen it rain more in 1 day than I have in 1 year in either Cali or Phoenix. I've seen more Texan flags and Longhorn paraphenilia than I thought I'd ever see in a lifetime. Everywhere we go, there's 1 or the other... in cars, on houses, everywhere!!

Maybe its a little jealousy because California doesn't seem to show this kind of pride.

WOOT! Welcome to Texas, and more specfically, the Austin area!

If you think you've seen a lot of rain, wait until we get one of the big ole thunderstorms roll through town. That was something I remember from California, you never heard thunder when it rained. And Austin definitely loves their Longhorns. If burnt orange is a color you can't stand, then this isn't the city for you. :D

When y'all are settled in, let me know, and I'll show you some good Texas BBQ. Maybe we can even get some of the other Texas FOFCers in on the fun.

I have been down here for 11 1/2 years. Drive down here in my '62 Willys Wagon with Loren and my dog. Barely had enough money as my mom paid for some of the gas. Had no job when I got here.

Now I am married, have a daughter, have a house, a couple cars, 3 dogs, 12 or so fish and things are good. Texas is the land of opportunity, it's kind of like America.
