After years of waiting, all the money spent on the VCD versions, Rush fans can finally rest in peace.

Exit Stage Left is a personal favorite of mine. From Neil's red bow tie, to Alex's best video performance, this video is well worth the full price of the 3. All the cheesy garb, all the great songs. Nummy

RUSH’S FIRST THREE CONCERT HOMEVIDEOS DEBUT ON DVD IN
RUSH REPLAY X 3 BOX SET
Four-Disc Package Features New 5.1 Surround Sound And Stereo Mixes

The band’s first three concert homevideos, each of which is out of print in any format, will be issued for the first time together and on DVD. The four-disc box set Rush Replay x 3 (Mercury/UMe), released June 13, 2006, combines the three DVDs-- Exit…Stage Left, Grace Under Pressure and A Show Of Hands--with a never-before-released CD soundtrack version of Grace Under Pressure.

Each DVD features new 5.1 surround sound and stereo mixes created by guitarist Alex Lifeson and Mike Fraser from the original concert multi-tracks as well as digitally transferred and remastered visuals. The package also includes mini reprints of the original tour booklets for the three concerts.

In 1981, the double LP Exit…Stage Left was released. The 60-minute homevideo of the same name, filmed March 27, 1981 at The Forum in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, includes “Limelight,” “Tom Sawyer,” “The Trees,” “Xanadu,” “Red Barchetta,” “Freewill,” “Closer To The Heart” and “YYZ.”

The 70-minute-plus Grace Under Pressure, released 1985, was shot at Maple Leaf Gardens in Rush’s hometown of Toronto. Some of the songs included are; as “The Spirit Of Radio” ,“New World Man” “The Enemy Within,” “Distant Early Warning,” “Red Sector A,” , “Witch Hunt” and a finale of “Vital Signs”/“Finding My Way”/“In the Mood.”

A Show Of Hands released in 1991 is the the 90-minute video of a 1988 concert in Birmingham, England nearly duplicates the songs on the same-named live album. Perennial favorites were joined by newer songs such as “Marathon,” “Turn The Page,” “Manhattan Project” and “Force Ten,” plus an encore medley of “2112”/“La Villa Strangiato”/“In The Mood.”

Jesus... the Rush retirement fund plan takes another step. These last 15 years have been excruciating in terms of releases.

what are you talking about?! these videos are some of the best performances of their career. The Exit Stage Left is one of the best examples of the band's energy and musical prowess. I'd take these on DVD versus a new album any day.

DOLA: As a business move, this is going to be a success. They are going to sell around 750, 000 to a million of these easily. At about 23 dollars a pop, they are going to gross around 20-23 million dollars on footage that has already been financed and paid for.

I agree about the albums. Exit Stage Left was my introduction to the band, and I think it's them at their zenith. It's nice to see it released on DVD. But this has been just the latest in the infinite amount of live releases, re-packaging greatest hits, DVD/CD combos, etc over the last 12-15 years.

Funny how you can measure musical success.

I understand where you are coming from. There are those Rush fans who are bitter by them not releasing fresh, new studio stuff. There are also those (like myself) who salivate at the thought of new DVDs, live shows, etc.

One thing I have realized is that as a musical influence in my life...byfar the biggest...Rush has etched their place in the history of rock. They did that over 20 years ago. I tend to salute them for their groundbreaking rather than recent studio albums. I don't care that much if they don't ever record again. They got me to where I am today with their previous material. I don't fall back on Vapor Trails as a measure of how a band should perform in the studio. I take out Moving Pictures and explain to young clients that if ever there was an album that was near perfect (in regards to songs and production) this is it.

I will welcome any new material they put out. I will buy it the day it's released. Still, we all know what they have done for the history of music. That is the most important thing to me. Being able to have the concerts on DVD will allow me to share my emotions with everybody I show them to.

Also, again, the business success of the band has to be one of the greatest stories ever. The amount of alubms and videos they have sold is astounding. As a business, Rush has been very successful.

What about the voice of Geddy Lee? How did it get so high? I wonder does he talk like an ordinary guy?

Funny you should mention that...

Neil Peart does all the song selections for the entrance music to their shows. The song that this comes from has been a staple of his selection since 96. I can't recall the band off hand.

The #1 reason why I can't stand Rush. I have to change the station if it comes on the radio.

I had no idea there were that many fans... will they honestly sell a million copies of some old concert DVD?

Yes, considering that all 3 concerts haven't been available on DVD before. Also, the 2 oldest have been out of print since about 1988.

Certainly 500,000 within 2 years. I would think that over the next 5 years, they will reach the platinum mark.

Huh? I didn't mention success anywhere in there. I'm saying that as a fan of the band, the last 13 years have been very unfulfilling. The studio albums have stunk after Counterparts and the band and label only seem interested in re-releasing the same content in as many forms as possible. It's as if George Lucas has been overseeing Rush's releases.

I don't have too much trouble with Cobain, but Rush isn't the only band with a vocalist I can't bear to listen to... just probably the most noteable. I have similar problems with Creed... although I can't be sure it's not that they just suck. I can't fairly say that Rush sucks, so I know it's just the lead singer.
