Texas announced a home-and-home with UTEP for the 2008/09 seasons today.

Texas @ UTEP - 9/6/08

You're going down, punk.

Huck, if you want a good idea how badly Texas will beat UTEP:

UTEP 14
Oklahoma 55

UTEP 0
Oklahoma 68

:D

Yikes. Nice payday for UTEP but that could get ugly.

Isn't this like you going out to a schoolyard and bragging to a third-grader about how you're going to trash him in a game of 1-on-1? I mean, come on... if you're going to schedule a patty-cake, at least have enough dignity not to talk smack about it.

Well, to be fair, the UTEP part wasn't really the headline (no offense Jeebs) but I have to play to my audience here. Arkansas, Central Florida, UCLA, Rice, and TCU have also been announced recently.

The only interesting thing is that we gave a straight home-and-home to UTEP. Likewise with Arkansas and UCLA, but we apparently believe UTEP is a bigger name than Rice, TCU, Central Florida, and North Texas. Which I guess is something.

"Pumpy Tudors" is a bigger name than North Texas.

Sometimes you have to dig really deep to find a bone to throw to UTEP.

This has been huge news on the UTEP board for about two weeks now and everyone is estatic that it's been finalized. This is the first time UTEP and UT will have met on the football field in 75 years, and I believe it will be the first time that UT football has EVER played the Miners in El Paso. 2008 is still a ways away, but this isn't the same Miners program that OU beat on a few years ago (that duckie was sure to reference), and we're expecting the games to be competative.

Another good thing that someone on the UTEP board brought up is that this probably means that Coach Price probably isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Hopefully that's true...

I'm DEFINITELY going to be going back to El Paso Sept 6, 2008 to catch the game. Should be lots of fun seeing Brandis Dew carve up the UT secondary... ;)

Yep, this is the first time the Longhorns will make a trip to El Paso. The previous two meetings, in 1930 and 1933 were in Austin. Back then, UTEP was named the College of Mines and Metallurgy. That is my bit o'trivia for they day.

The rumor going around now is that the Miners are try to schedule a home and home with ATM for '09 and '10 and that we're talking to OU as well.

So of course the folks on the UTEP board think this is an attempt to get the Miners into the Big XII. Yeah, that's gonna happen...
