Most of you probably won't care, a few may commiserate and a few others may celebrate but dammit, this won't be the first thread where somebody bitches about work so I'm not gonna be bashful ... I gotta vent to somebody.

First, I discover a mistake that there's nobody to blame for but myself. An order never got sent to a network rep, plain & simple I just never sent the damned paperwork. It was part of a batch of orders to the same rep, or should have been, she emailed back to confirm what she had received at the time. I doublechecked all her figures, verified what she had was correct ... and failed to notice that there was one item missing. I blew it, fucked up all by myself, and cost us $3,000 in commission on that order.

While trying to find/figure out what happened, something else caught my eye.
Another item from the same family of networks that wasn't included in any of the invoices I've gotten from last month's spots. I had everything else accounted for except that one. So I start looking through everything, fearing I had screwed up two orders instead of one.

But no ... whew ... there's the order. There's where I emailed the order to the rep (different rep, same building). There's the email receipt confirmation.
Maybe it's just an invoicing error on their end.

But no ... turns out that the rep in question, who left the company last month, never turned in the fucking order. Net loss to us? $9,000.
Best we can tell, it was old fashioned human error, no more & no less.

This has NOT been a good day at my desk. Not one damned bit.

I can't even work up a good mad about it, shit happens. But I can't decide whether to puke or cry ... or both.

Alas, the older I get, the more prounounced depressant effect alcohol has on me.

Basically, I could get drunk pretty easily but I'd just be a more upset/unhappy/
depressed guy who can't walk straight.

Karma?

Funny you should mention karma, because it was discussed during the discovery process.

My wife mentioned, correctly so, that we could have billed the missing $81k to the client and simply pocketed the cash without anyone ever knowing but us.
(This is actually not uncommon in most agencies, happens regularly at a lot of them).

That was dismissed basically because of the bad karmic possibilities, figure our new house would probably burn down if we just kept the cash.

Ugh...

Mistakes in my job are painful enough when they don't effect my personal bottom line.

Trust me, I know how you feel.

I've been working with my dad for two and a half years producing pumps for the irrigation market. Bust my ass, have customers that have told us to make sure we tell other potential customers to call them because they want to help us out because of our great service, etc. But, unless some miracle happens, it looks like we're going to close shop in the next couple of months.

I think the number of people in this country that actually understand 'karma' is in the single digits.

That statement is going to come back to haunt you ;)

Sorry about the crappy day, JiMGA.
