I'm doing a alternate universe historical sim from 1935 till the present (using playoffs). In 1947, the strangest thing happened:

Boise State was #1 going into the final week of the season. They were upset by 5-6 Wyoming, turning the top spot over to...

...Buffalo.

That's right. They were 11-0 going to the playoffs. They earned the #2 seed, beating #15 USC before losing to #7 Clemson, who went on to win the national title.

Buffalo went back to being mediocre the next year.

So, here's a question for all of you.

Have you run into a season where a team jumped up from out of nowhere to have a miracle season, before falling back to the pack the next season? I'm sure it's happened, but let's hear about some of the greatest seasons from the most unlikeliest of teams.

I've seen it happen a few times in FBCB. I think that basketball lends itself to that because of only 5 starters on the court. Having a couple players peak at just the right time can take a middle of the road team and make them a contender.

I don't have details, but every so often, I'll look at the top 25 and see a strange team in the top 5. When I go to check them out, almost always they are led by 2-3 stud seniors. And, I imagine, they go right back to mediocre the next year, because I stop hearing about them.

dola--I'm not talking about a team with single digit prestiege suddenly appearing in the top ten. I'm talking more about a team like present day . . . say Clemson or Iowa State. A team who normally is hoping for a bubble spot suddenly finding itself hoping for a #1 seed.
