Heard on sportsradio that since Matsui is out long-term, the Yankees will be opening their wallets for a name outfielder like Cabrera or Torii Hunter. Are the Twins looking to move Torii? God, I'd love for him to come to STL...

Contract up at the end of the year. Says he won't sign if they don't prove they want to win.

He's gonna be gone, just a matter of when.

Depends on where the Twins stand in another month or so. If it looks like they have no shot at the playoffs, Hunter and Stewart are both likely to be traded as they would be gone next year anyway. I think Joe Nathan is another one who could be traded too. He might have the most value of the three.

Please, someone take Hunter from us, preferably overpay for him if at all possible. Maybe take Radke and Castro while you're at it.

We'll take Hunter, Nathan, and a large order of fries please. In return, you can have all of our remaining commemorative souvenirs from the '87 Series.

Why do you say that? Is he a problem child?

The Twins have an option on Hunter for '07, though it's unlikely they will want to pay him $12 million.

I don't see how that could work. I don't think either he or Edmonds would be happy playing left field.

So what does this ESPN article about the Phillies trading Abreu to the Yankees contain? It's insider. It would be nice to be able to shift Abreu's money to bring in a pitcher, but he is a very good hitter.

Move Hunter to RF for the remainder of the season. I'd be surprised if Jimmy Ballgame is back next season, but if he is, he can play a corner OF position.

Hunter is a great player and I'd hate to see him leave. But he is not worth 12 million.

Agreed. Hunter's bat has never quite lived up to expectations. What will be missed is his play in CF, and probably the most, his leadership in the clubhouse.

Abreu's been one of the 10 best hitters in baseball over the last 5 years - he's great. Trading him for "generic veteran" doesn't make any sense.

I certainly don't know that much about Hunter's personality, but given that he is the younger player and at this point likely the better center fielder I am not sure he would happily make a move to RF. Sure you could force him, but I am not certain you want a $12 million ballplayer sulking.

It'd be a nice problem to have. Or at least it's better than the current OF Wheel of Fortune.

I don't see who the Cardinals have that the Twins will take - Your farm system has Anthony Reyes and a whole bunch of pixie dust- and Reyes is well behind Liriano/Baker/ and so forth in Minnesota. The Yanks have a genuine chip in Phillip Hughes.

I don't think Hunter's the great leader others make him out to be. He got in a fight last year with Morneau, is pushing the race card hard with the whole Bonds thing and openly criticized the Twins new hitting coach in the offseason. He's the streakiest hitter I've seen, strikes out too much and doesn't drive in enough runs when it matters. His defense is outstanding, granted, but there's no way he should have won a gold glove last year when he missed 60+ games of the season. He'll get you around a .270 average, 20 HR's and 80 RBI a year. There are guys far cheaper than him that can do that.

Jason Marquis is a possible trade chip. I doubt we'd part with Reyes. And Bo Hart is no longer our property. Heh.

yeah, but with the Twins ? Why would they dump a salary to acquire an FA to be ?

Any player traded to the Twins is going to have to be a position player. They are loaded in the minors for pitchers.
