for baseball check out Out Of The Park, there are thousands of leagues. for basketball i think there's a nice college basketball game but i forgot the name, i think it's called Tournament Dreams Basketball. the only football game that is currently supported is a college football game called Bowl Bound Football by Grey Dog Software. i don't have the game so i can't comment on it. any other online football game out there currently is either outdated or the developer is more interested in talking about his house building project than things that people would actually care about, like his upcoming games.

There's a soccer sim (www.hattrick.org)

There was a football one mentioned here a little while back, but the consensus was it wasn't quite ready for prime time.

Computer Simulated Fantasy Baseball League @ hxxp://www.csfbl.com/

WeBL (Boxing) @ hxxp://www.vivi.com/

Played and enjoyed both of these for a long time.

(edit to add that these are both free to play)

Not cheap, but they cover almost all the sports and they have tons of players. I have thought on joining some of their leagues for a long time but never decided to do it.

Both of these are fun, with CSFBL you can have a league that plays several games per day or 1 per day, which is great.

I currently only have 1 boxer in WeBL but its fun as well if you like boxing, just very limited.

www.simulatedsports.com has (had?) a pretty decent college b-ball game. I've even got a viewer for it at my site.

CSFBL was pretty good, but unstable enough that I finally quit. The site went down regularly, and I just got tired of having to log in often enough to see if it was running again. But the game itself was solid, and they may be over those issues.

For baseball, there's also www.simdynasty.com. It's not as realistic as CSFBL, but it's very stable and it's pretty fun. I enjoy the fast-moving leagues where you really focus more on being a GM - drafting players, deciding who to spend development resources on and making trades and then watching your squad mature through the seasons.

Again, it's not super in-depth and it's not 100% realistic, but it's a fun time-waster.

Has anyone tried www.simnasium.com? The Diamond Mind connection makes that look appealing.

The roof should go on our new home late this week. We're finalizing plans on brick and stone placement for the outer walls and they're painting the siding as soon as it's dry outside. Which, if it were here in New Hampshire, would be some time in 2007. I have never seen it rain so hard for so long. Roads all over here are closed.

Simulatedsports still has the basketball game (recently renamed to DriveTheLane.com) that I played for a year or two. They also have a horse racing sim (recently renamed DerbyFever.com) that I have been playing for five years now. Keep trying to get people interested in it here, but with little success. Must be good if I've been playing for five years. :)

I played the horse racing sim about five years ago for a few months. I recall it being VERY time consuming to play well, and tough to get ahead because of a large group of long-timers. Has that changed?

I play the college basketball game mentioned above. (www.simulatedsports.com or www.drivethelane.com)

I've been playing for 37 seasons (9 weeks per season) and enjoy the game. It isn't very in depth, but is a fun and well-balanced game.

It is very time consuming if you have a lot of stables. One or two not so much. You have to enter horses each week, select jockeys if you want the best ones, look at the auction and/or claiming races if you have an empty spot in your stable to fill, etc. But all that adds to the complexity of the game, and so I don't mind spending the time. But you could just run the five horses you start out with (though they generally aren't very good), let the computer pick the jockeys (I do because its the only boring part of the game for me), and ignore the auction/claimers if you really wanted to. Would make the game pretty boring I think.

And to be honest it is tough to "get ahead" of the long-time players if you play the totally free version of the game. Paying for breedings (you don't have to spend money to breed) and specific races have been added since the game started, and people who can afford it have the advantage of getting the best sires every week. But any horse regardless of breeding can be a very successful horse in the sim. There are plenty of examples of "bargain breeds" using lesser known or quality sires that have won major stakes races.

But you can still have a lot of fun with the game without paying a penny. Researching breedings trying to find a successful one to use for your breeding is surprisingly addictive for most in the sim, and so is looking through claimers and auctions for the horses that the current owner has not tried everything with. Got my first stakes winner that way.

There are residencies based on one or more of the tracks in the game that have all sorts of contests and have built up a strong sense of community. The guy who created the game, Mike, is very good and fair, constantly making additions to the sim though he doesn't post very much on the message boards.

I knew little about horse racing before I started playing, and didn't have much interest in the sport as a whole, but I'm still there five years later. I think that's the best endorsement I can give really. How many sims/games do you play for five years?

Thomkal...I have been playing the Sim Horses since the weeks were in the 300's.....What do your stable names go by?

Bbor, well one of them is thomkal. :) I've seen Bbor over there but was never sure if it was you or not. The ones most recognizable probably are legions (vt. residency), dancards (Ireland residency), and Thomkal and Danknight (Nexis residency). Have more than that of course. :)

Well good to know Bbor. :) I have a variety of stables. A bargain bred only stable, one that only used BP's and 200 or less all the way up to those with a mixture of BP and money breedings. I've not ever paid for a sire before the ticker starts though.

Sorry for those not playing, I know that made no sense. :) If someone does check it out though and needs help, please post a new thread, and I'll be glad to help.
