View Full Version : NoVA-MD-DC FOFC Happy Hour RE-SCHEDULED!! Friday June 16th!

Is there any interest amongst the DC-Metro FOFCers for a happy hour in the coming weeks? I think we could meet somewhere somewhat central to everyone, depending on who can make it an when. There certainly aren't a lack of places to meet out here, either.
If Cam says yes, then Burke takes the early lead to host - there's a Glory Days around the corner. :)

Are you talking during the week or weekend? Should be in DC, so its central to all.
Meet a the DC Chili Cook Off today.

When you guys get together, and one of the guys says two things in a row, does he have to begin his 2nd statement with a "dola"?

I live 40 feet from having my address be labelled Burke too, so I'd vote there.
I am morally opposed to the existence of Maryland, so would not go there to one.

I'd be interested, but a drive to Virginia could be a pain if I have to find parking.
Its a little ways off, but I have a friend that cooks in the BBQ fest at the end of June. I'm sure he'd let us hang there a while and probably feed us some chicken and beer. If there is any interest let me know and I'll talk to him.

Can you wait til July 1-9th? Arlie and I could go then. :)
Edit to add: Actually Arlie could only go 1-4, but I'm there from the 1-9th.

How was I never aware that you were in Columbia, Celeval?
(one friend lived there after college when he worked for WR Grace, another couple have been there for a few years, and my wife still works there part-time)

Seems we got 3 of us in the Burke/Springfield area, and to be honest it would be almost as easy to get to from Maryland/DC than something in Reston or Herndon. Just a thought...
Glory Days, Burke, June 2nd or 9th

We've been renting there for about a year and a half - starting to look to buy, but the housing market isn't the easiest to get into. ;) Nice place, though.

I know nothing of that region. Is there something bad about Maryland? Do all D.C. people hate it?

That'd be great. We're actually staying with Cam so we'll be in Burke.
I hope he doesn't mind that I just told the board that. ;)

Just to butt in:
What about T.G.I. Fridays if folks from Maryland are coming? Then they could really take the metro and walk, unless your intention is you could pick them up from the Metro to go to Glory Days.

Yeah, that's the one I meant, sorry, should have specified...
That or like Bennigan's or something inside the mall because of the shuttle from the Franconia Metro to the mall...

If its near the Metro I might make it, but a drive to Burke probably won't happen.
Maybe we can do a separate meetup in DC? Is there anyone that would be interested in coming to the BBQ festival?

If they go to TGIF, it is literally about the equivelent of... idano... 3 blocks or so of a walk? Or if you shuttle to the mall and then walk, it's like 1 block or so...

Figured I'd throw my $0.02 into the ring. Both the propsed dates are bad for me (dad's birthday and one of the few days my sister is in town, respectively), but I'd be up for something like this in the future. :) Anywhere is fine for me. If I end up driving to MD, I'd probably stay at my folks' or something, I live in Ashburn (pretty near Burke), and though I hate DC, I'd metro in if somebody gave super-clear instructions... :)

Here is the BBQ Battle site. Be warned that it has a soundtrack.
http://www.washington.org/WCTCoffsite.cfm?http://www.barbecuebattle.com
I am good friends with one of the guys that competes. I'm sure he'd let us use his booth as a sort of home base. I went two years ago and had a lot of fun. It will probably be hot, but there's a lot of good BBQ around and lots of other booths. I'll be there regardless, so just let me know if you want to come and I'll talk to Warren about hanging with him.

Sorry, grew up in Woodbridge and tons of family and my g/f's family are in Springfield...
"Hey, let's run out to Ashburn real quick" is not in my vocabulary.

I dunno, my best friend got engaged last week and we ended up going wedding dress shopping, and we ended up driving through Burke to get to the store (we were coming from work, in Dulles). I really didn't think it was that long a drive...I could see how traffic could make it horrendous, but when we went, it wasn't bad...

Obviously, I'm not gonna be there (the trip from around Pittsburgh is a little too long for me), but I'm reading the thread and trying to track how many people are actually going to make it to this thing. After many calculations, it looks like there might be a grand total of 2 people there.
I knew I should have taken calculus in college. :(
