So what is the nicest place you have been to in the states? I think Zion canyon in Utah. Awesome views, great wildlife and an amazing sunset.

beautiful =
"Having qualities that delight the senses, especially the sense of sight."
By definition, that makes Las Vegas at night the most beautiful place in America that I've ever seen. Nothing else even really comes close.
And yes, I'm being serious. Before I saw it, I would have gone with either the Atlanta city skyline as viewed from a couple of spots off US-41 or with Dobbins AFB (not sure what it's like now, but the old view northbound on Cobb Pkwy at night used to just about mesmerize me when I was a kid).

Agree with Albion on Kauai. We only spent a day there on our honeymoon, but if/when I go back to Hawaii I definitely won't make that mistake again.

Zion is by far my favorite as well, but I feel one of the best ways to experience it is up on a wall....I have climbed a couple of the walls in Zions, and it is an awesome view...
There is also a small canyon on your way to Zion off of I-15 called Kolob canyon, it is a great and beautiful place.
In second for me, are the High Uintahs - they have large fields, large lakes that are crystal clear, beautiful mountains, and the fishing is AWESOME!

The list is endless. There are so many little spots around this country that have knocked my socks off when I saw it. Backroads in PA, KY, TN, NC, VA, WV, OH....these are endless, I couldn't begin to list them unless I had been keeping track over the years.
I guess I can list a few that I have seen more then a couple times and remember....
Skylines and upclose and in the skyline (being in downtown or close) are always things I like. New York, Nashville, Austin, Houston, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Seattle, Spokane (WA), Denver, Cinci all off the top of my head are cities I enjoy from a distance and upclose.
As far as places/views of things, I guess west of Albuquerque, NM, great place to see a sun rise or set. Heading north through Wyoming/Montana at night with the sky lit up before you from the 'Northern Lights'. Driving along the Rockies in Colorado. East of Tucson, AZ around the AZ-NM border. Coasts of WA and OR. Hawaii, I don't remember what island I was on but it was damn cool. Along the KY-OH border, whatever that damn river is. Northwest Montana.
Huh...lots of little images popping into my head I can't even place where they are. Oh well, that will do I guess.

All ones I could add to my list, too.
Another I could add to my list is most of the way from Spokane, WA tro Chicago, IL on the train. Spent the whole time in the lounge part with the glass top. One of the best ways to go through the MT Rockies and by the WI Dells. Also, coming back in the middle of flat ass ND, at night, one of the best lighting storms I have ever seen while sitting on the same train.

I have been fortunate enough to visit quite a few national parks in the US, and tops on my list is the Grand Tetons. I haven't made it to the parks in Utah or to the Grand Canyon to compare. Yellowstone & Glacier are also on my list, and I also agree about the island of Kauai- if you go to Hawaii and only have one island to choose, that would be it.

For natural settings the Grand Canyon. Maybe beautiful is stretching it, but it is certainly the most amazign thing I've ever seen.
For urban settings the Chicago skyline on a sunny day from a boat or cruise ship in lake Michigan near Navy Pier is tough to beat IMO.

I haven't been to that many places in America, but so far I'd have to say Tennessee. We don't have anything like the Smoky Mountains here in the UK. Chattanooga is hands-down my favourite place on Earth, too. If I could then I'd relocate in a snap. A nice little place up on Lookout Mountain.

Wow. There are a lot great places in a America that I've seen, and edivently lots that I haven't gotten to see yet.
-Northern New Mexico...well...I drive through it on I-40..So I saw that part of it. As we were coming back Alabama, we had a thunderstorm chasing us through New Mexico. When we made it into the sunlight, and saw the mesas and everything...some in sunlight, some covered by clouds with rays of sun peeking through...It was just an amazing sight.
-Amarillo, Texas (just kidding)
-Kauai, Hawaii-Definitely the most beautiful Hawai'ian island I've been to.
-Most everywhere along Highway 1, although I haven't seen any of the Oregon parts of it. It sounds like I'm missing out, there. Big Sur is amazing, though.
-Summit Rock, in the Santa Cruz mountains. On a clear day (or night), you see forever, and it's really humbling.

I completely agree. I've been pricing some of the 19 day trips that include in-land excursions for 11 or 12 days and a 7 day cruise back south. We are going to do one of those either in 2 or 3 years.

First - Mackinac Island, MI. Anyone who's been there knows what I mean.
Second - The San Juan Islands in NW Washington. I've gone there many times since I've lived here, and it always amazes me how beautiful it is.
Third - Anywhere along the coast (Michigan side) of Lake Michigan, especially Ludington. This is a homer pick, but some of my best memories are of the beautiful sunsets on the beaches of Lake Michigan.

For those of you that love Bryce and Zion, if you haven't been, you really have to go once in the wintertime - as nice as they are the rest of the year, it's stunning on a clear winter day with a little snow capping the rock formations.

The Travel Channel had an "America's Top 10 Wonders" or something like that and I wrote down the places I'd like to visit, they are as follows:
-----------------------------------------------------
Carlsbad Caverns, NM - an underground chamber with more than 100 caves
http://www.americaswonderlands.com/images/TexMex/CARLSBADB04.jpg
Channel Islands, CA - 8 islands near Los Angeles: over 2,000 animal and plant species with about half of them underwater
http://www.nps.gov/chis/island1.gif
http://www.nps.gov/applications/parkphotos/sunrise2.jpg
Redwoods, CA - home to 2,000 year old trees (about 300 ft tall)
http://www.nps.gov/applications/parkphotos/acf9a.jpg
Yellowstone, WY - Geysers, waterfalls, wildlife, beautiful scenery
http://www.nps.gov/applications/parkphotos/ACFA7A.jpg
Grand Canyon, AZ - it's a shame we lived in Phoenix for 3 years and never visited this wonder. Note to self: Hike along the rim for maximum views.
http://www.nps.gov/applications/parkphotos/grca3600.jpg
-----------------------------------------------------------
I haven't traveled much, but the place that I was in awe of was Yosemite (this was also mentioned on the show). The waterfalls, domes, meadows, forests... I can go on and on, but it's somewhere I'd love to go back to again, but this time with a camera.

I have been through the states many times touring, and there are many great sites all over.
The ones that stick in my minds eye are the rolling green hills of eastern Tennessee and North Carolina, Georgia and the Kentucky is really something.
We always seemed to play outdoor festivals up there and the trees and colors of the seasons I will never forget.
That general region would be my choice (can throw in Maryland and Virginia too).
Out west in Washington and Oregon is nice, but the cities are not so nice. Small and junky, so I really don't think of this area until I give it a lot of time.
