View Full Version : Short Story Challenge - Plots Up, due 30/6.

Groundhog

A few times me and some friends have messed around and written short stories based on the hxxp://www.seventhsanctum.com Quick Story Idea Generator. It's a lot of fun because it often comes up with very strange ideas, such as:

The theme of this story: weird thriller. The main character: hysterical comic. The major event of the story: party.

Would anyone be interested in a short story challenge, where I'll generate each participant a story idea from the generator, and then it's up to you to try and piece together a short story out of it.

Not sure what should constitute a "short story" in regards to word limit? Under 5k words?

Anyhow, if you're interested, post in this thread. We'll do voting afterwards and let people decide who's story about the hypocritical pedlar's satirical relationship that ends in war is the best! :)

I wish you the best of luck, hope it turns out better than the last time (http://www.operationsports.com/fofc/showthread.php?t=13834). Regrettably, a bit of miscommunication (well, poor assumption by the originator) caused some disconnect, but we also suffered from a lot of dropoff from the "I'm in!" phase to the actual "turn it in (http://www.operationsports.com/fofc/showthread.php?t=14949)" phase.

Best wishes.

Indeed, weekend is over, so let's get this rolling. About to post the randomly generated plots.

Lets put a tentative time of a month to get them in, but this is subject to change depending on what everyone else thinks.

Also, it'll be a soft cap of 5,000 words for the story, meaning you can go over, but not New York Knicks style ;)

I was hoping to do something sci-fi, but looks like I'm stuck with horror... I do read a lot of horror though, so mine shouldn't be too hard for me.

Chief Rum's generated plot is pretty interesting. I wouldn't have minded drawing something like that. Clintl's, on the other hand... wow, not sure what I would do with that. :)

Yeah, I really like mine. :)

I haven't looked at everyone elses yet but I can't imagine liking one of them better. I even have the mobster in mind.

I do like yours btw Groundhog. I see a good story in there waiting to be written.

I read a horror story along these lines in a best of anthology recently with someone other than a boatman as the main character and I'm still haunted by it, no pun intended.

I know what you mean, and I think mine is a little too standard if anything. I really wish I hadn't read that H.P. Lovecraft anthology a couple of weeks ago, because as soon as I started writing today his story Dagon popped in to my head. I've gone through 500 words (badly in need of multiple edits, to be sure :D ) but it's been a challenge to keep it from sounding like a stock-standard horror storry.

I've read that one too. :)

If you haven't read "Down Here in the Garden" by Tia V Travis and can find it, that's the story I talked about above.

Without giving too much away it is a modern story which references the Donner party. Good stuff.
