I picked uip a PS2, and I want to catch up on all the old FF games. I managed to get a few off ebay today (8 and 9, plus the chronicles one that I thought would cost me a fortune)

Does anyone have the FF7 game, and if so, would you be willing to sell it? :D

I don't have one to sell, but I bought it as a Greatest Hits... I would think this means it should be easy to find at a good price?

SirFozzie

even the Greatest Hits ones on Ebay and elsewhere are going for $70+

You'd think they would release some more of these with the movie that came out.

Rumor has it they're going to remake it on the PS3, but that's just speculation.

Found some cheaper on Ebay, but sadly, they're the PAL version and won't work on American TV's/PlaystationX's

$70? Really? That seems to be ridiculous.

If I was you, I'd head to the mall and check out a Gamestop. I often see at least one or two there but I don't remember the price. I wouldn't imagine its over $25.

$70? Jesus Christ, I picked it up for $5 a couple years ago.

Ebay: most of the ones going for under $75 are either the PAL version or scuffed badly.

I still see copies of FF7 at GameStop and EBgames around here under the used section (Greatest Hits version, of course). Definitely not around the $70 range, that's for sure.

I'm guessing you should only have mentioned it is going for $70 after you managed to get your hands on a cheaper copy :D

I'm playing 8 as we speak. I could loan you my copy of 7.

Wow what the hell. $70?? Yeah, I'd definitely check out your local video game store for a used copy. Freaking Final Fantasy games and their crazy prices... I ran into this with FF3 on the SNES. Just gave up on owning it for the SNES.

Look around at the used game stores and some of the big box stores. I picked up a greatest hits copy at Target for $14.99 about 6 months ago.

Don't forget to grab Final Fantasy Tactics while you're at it. Different play style, but its the best FF in the post-SNES era IMO.

$70? Wow. I'm pretty sure I have this one - the one with Cloud, Tifa, the dude with the chainsaw arm, etc? Can't seem to find it at the moment, but I was playing that a lot up until my son was born....he's 6 now. Never have finished it. Can't recall if it was greatest hits or not, or even if it might have been packaged with the PS. *shurg*

I'm pretty sure I still have FF 7. I'd be willing to loan it to you (assuming I can find it which I'm 99% sure I know which box it is in.

Square did a big reprint on their games a few years back. I'm really suprised they haven't reprinted FF7 or remade it by now.

No he isn't.

Speaking as a GameTZ user, let me tell you what that five means:

"I rate my games, value-wise, on a scale of 1-5. I rate this game as a 5. Pay out the ass if you want it, you fucker." ;)

If you don't see a $ sign, assume he's got some kind of a scale - generally 5 or 10 point - and that the value you see is on that scale.

dola - Fozzie, screw it, I'll loan you my copy if you want.

Its mint, Non-GH, but I don't play it and it collects dust and I trust you.

so PM if you want.

It totally sucks that you either have to resort to piracy, or to pay extortion level prices in the used market for games like this. I'd love it if they would make a downloadable PC game of FF7, sometimes I get the urge to play it again.

SirFozzie

There's a PC game out there, but not sure if it plays nice with XP.

Could be worse, try looking for a copy of Chrono Trigger. The SNES cartridge version will set you back about $250, as of a couple years ago. (This is before they made 9 million copies of the PS Final Fantasy Chronicles.

And if you think I'm joking..

Looking at the other prices, I don't think he'll be getting a bid on it though :)

I think Sukeidon 2 goes for a ton, like easily over 100. Games like Parappa the Rapper and Intellegence Cubed also cost a fortune IIRC. I liked that Cubed game a lot.

Haha! That's crazy. I still have my cartridge copy -- complete with everything, including the strategy guide. It'd have to be incredibly hard times for me to sell that game for sure...though, I still wish I got myself another SNES console to play it again. The ROM doesn't just do it for me. :(

I think Sukeidon 2 goes for a ton, like easily over 100.

I guess I got pretty lucky when I snagged mine for $40 or so. Since we're on the topic of PS1 games -- does anyone know where I can find a copy of Persona 1? It's...probably the one thing missing on my list, and I've got an itch to act out my completionist craving.

One of the Persona games - I'm not sure if it was 1 or 2 - got reissued and is being sold as used games at EBGames/GameStop.

This started about a year ago for FF7 and no one is really sure why. It's not like you couldn't find copies of it propping open EBGames doors around the world at that point. But now, even GH versions cost a fortune for reasons that just don't make sense.

The Square trio from the SNES makes a lot more sense. Back in those days, there was no greatest hits or anything. It cost a good $50-$75 just to buy the game so people buying it for that much 5 years later wasn't that odd since the high price kept the supply fairly low.

Maybe someone is trying to corner the market on FF7?

stevew

I know FF7 sold a ton of copies in the US, so the fact that it's ultra rare and expensive is very odd.

http://www.the-magicbox.com/Chart-USPlatinum.shtml

almost 2.5 million in the US alone. I can only assume no one is reselling it and with the "movie sequel" that came out a few weeks ago, a bunch of new people want it?

It's not even that it's very rare. If you look on ebay, there are over 200 hits in the games section and a majority of those are actually for FF7 and not something else so it's not like there are few copies left. It's just that demand has gone through the roof for reasons unknown.

I don't what it is about dealing with a different currency format...but this looks mightily tempting for me to capitalize on. Though, I'm curious that it's NTSC format and not PAL format -- which is what I've often been running into these days.

I see a ton of Persona 2, and it's to the point where a bunch of folks were even wondering if there even was an American release for Persona 1 -- which I confirmed awhile back. I've only seen it once at a GameStop, and I can't for the life of me fathom why I never picked it up back then. I'll have to give the stores more of a look through, more so because of the new systems coming in, and some stores trying to clear out their PS1 inventory to make room.
