“Wonders” Details:
Great Wall
- Prevents Barbarians from entering your cultural borders on that continent
- Doubles the number of Great Generals emerging from combat inside your cultural borders
- Requires Masonry
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Great Wall actually fail to hold back the Mongols? A beautiful addition for players like me, who forget to focus on the military, but still.

Well, that's just the equivalent of the spearman rolling a natural 20, is my guess. I don't think they intentionally designed the game with the idea of anachronistic combat in mind.
Having a wonder used to achieve its ideal effect, rather than its true historical effect, just makes me giggle.

Well, it's not like any of the other wonders are all that realistic... I mean, I think the Pyramids wonder is downright stupid. That ought to grant some sort of cultural or religious bonus... but granting a bunch of civics is kind of stupid. Unless it grants slavery... then that would be sort of appropriate.
The mongols invaded china successfully many times, regardless of the wall's presence. They were more than mere barbarians, though.

Didn't it use to be a granary in every city?

Yeah, and that didn't make any sense, either.
